Waiting to be laid off

I managed to get a new job in record time. I was surprised at how quickly I received a new offer. The market is hot. One thing I don't get is why people wait to be shown the door here? Maybe they think that the market will be as hot as it is now for a long, long time?

actually I have asked to be laid off so not as unlikely as you might think.

A RIF is the only way I can get paid out for the $100K plus I have in unvested RSUs (also know as future bonuses provided as past incentives to not quit the company)

They have not left because they are bottom of the barrel talent or too skeered of change. A trained chimp could get a job in this hot employee-centric market.

If you're an engineer, there's been plenty of escapees from Bellevue going to Microsoft and Amazon, Meta, Google, etc.

Could you share where? Some of us would benefit in figuring out the next steps.
