Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

I decided to stay a little longer

I got a decent offer, but I changed my mind at the last minute. They didn't offer much higher pay, but I heard from others that the atmosphere is much healthier. I assessed that if the recession hits I could easily lose that job right away, that is, it somehow seemed to me that I am safer here for the time being. Now I wonder if maybe I made a mistake by not accepting the offer. Is there anyone else who has decided to stay here for a while longer just because the recession is looming?

This reads like an HR "story". Made up because they want to stem the bleeding until THEY'RE ready to show you the door in the middle of a recession.

Take control of your own futures.

You decided it was safer sticking with an insurance provider that has a track record of wildly laying off its workers, only to rehire them in 6 months....than going to a different carrier that maybe doesnt?

This is going to provide safety during the big recession headed our way?

IMO run now to a big mutual that might be able to weather the storm and wont be looking at it from a profits point of view. It wasnt even a recession and Allstate started offshoring claims work...

People need to make their own decisions. For me, I had to leave for my physical and mental health. I hope it works out for you.

I was going to leave in May but decided not to do so as it seems that the econ is taking a turn. you never know. i'll stay for a while, cannot complain to much, i like my boss & the pay is ok. i was going to leave as a competitor was paying more for the same role and i did not have to move for this jump. nonetheless, the amount i'd gain in my total comp was not worth the hustle as we dance on the brink of a recession.

all the best :-)

There are 3 different groups at Allstate. Those that are looking to get out as soon as they get a decent job offer, those that are waiting it out for a possible severance, and those that are too close to retirement to bail now. OP just entered the waiting it out for possible severance group. Reassess your goals in a few months. Give it until new year 2023 and see where you are. By then, you may just have a fat severance, unemployment and better jobs on the horizon. Allstate can’t hire fast enough and that goes for a lot of insurance companies these days. Allstate will ship most jobs overseas soon and use the lack of not being able to hire stateside as the reason.

Considering many stateside roles and departments are about to be offshored to contractors or moved to Pune in the next few months you probably should have taken the other job. A newly offered job with another company is likely safer than what is about to take place here at Allstate.
