Paid Leave of absence

Hello. I need advice please. I have a week long vacation coming up, plus several scattered days. I don’t want to lose that time. However, I am considering asking about Paid Leave of Absence to care for a fragile/aging blood family member. I would like the maximum time allowed, BUT I am also looking for paid leave. I work for BOA so I am not independantly wealthy. Still have bills to pay.
Soooooo, how do I go about doing this? My family members Dr is on board and will sign off he said, so documentation is not a problem.
Please no judging/hating. I am looking for honest suggestions. Thanks in advance!!

I have to share that I had a similar experience while at BAC. M y manager wasn’t the greatest, but my surrounding team was. I worked remotely for quite some time and it gave me a break from being a caregiver, hardest thing I’ve ever done. I ended up taking minimal time off but got to be with my loved one for every moment that mattered.

Call Sedgwick and they will walk you through it. Once you know the date your leave will start you let them know and they send you a packet to have your doctor fill out. You have a month to return it.

Contact EAP or HR advice and counsel and they will give you guidance.

It depends on what state you’re in but in California you can receive disability to care for an ailing child, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, spouse, or registered domestic partner. You will receive most of your pay from the state and the rest from BofA. What BofA pays you gradually reduces as the time you are out increases, but your state checks will remain the same. I had a similar situation where I needed to take care of a family member that didn’t qualify so I just had my doctor put me out on disability for my own mental health issues. Good luck!!

You will need to talk to HR/Sedgwick I think. There are several factors when determining what you qualify for. I have never done it, but some members on my team have. You will also have to discuss it with your manager of course too. Best of luck to you & your family.
