Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The ratio of hard-working people and dead weight

There are still talented and knowledgeable people here, but when you consider the number of useless managers and those employees who in the past probably couldn't even get a job here, the number of hard-working talented people would be shockingly minor.
I heard someone say that for every capable hard woking employee, come 100 of those who are just dead weight and I believe it. Perhaps even more?

Nobody works here in Annandale. Well, a few do work but most people say that "they are working from home" which is a complete lie. If they are in the office they are doing PowerPoint bu-----t which is totally useless for the corporation or they are in Zoom meetings making big decisions that will never be implemented. So, Annandale is dead, or almost dead. After shutting down Dallas DW will most definitely shut down Annandale. This is just an expense. But, most people here don't want to move down to TX so DW will get a headcount reduction on top of a cost reduction for shutting down this place. It is a win-win situation for DW, not for XOM. So, it will be done.

I am sitting around doing nothing and collecting paychecks!

Taking 3 months to hire someone does not mean the 3 months is used for vetting.

Maybe people are sitting around and complaining and posting to internet forums instead of moving the hiring process along.

In my interviews, our team mates wanted to hire "yes men" not competent men.

@1rpd If they’re not vetting who they bring in then why does it take almost three months from the time of first contact to hire them?

I take your comment to be a tacit admittance that Exxon employees are sitting around doing nothing and collecting paychecks (or complaining about their employer in Internet forums).

Just look at the degrees of new hires and some of the low supervisory role people. You will get the message .. EM gets to pick among the worst.

The hiring manager and HR created the problem of dead weights by not vetting who were brought in. The lack of internal postings didn’t help either. People moved around every 2 years so they really don’t have any depth. Some very good at spewing out B.S. Others are simply put into the wrong jobs.

“The ratio of hard-working people and dead weight”

In O&G, almost everybody is dead weight.

Be honest; how many hours of productive work do you perform per week? The answer for the average O&G office employee is probably around four hours max.

For management the number is even lower. Controlling for virtual meetings and forwarding emails, they might perform 1-2 hours of profitable work per week.

Standard of hires has fallen hugely since 2020, some real m-r-ns coming through the door…

I’d say 20 to 1 is probably pretty close to reality.
