Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Why is it that no one believes in this company anymore?

I have been working here for a long time and I have witnessed bad times before. However, back then everyone hoped that things would change for the better and they really did get better after a while. This time, it seems that no one believes that things can improve anymore.

@1jor I have had the same experience after I started to have discussion about my promotion I was asked to fill out a high potential form and then nothing came out of it eventually to be told that it was for me to think about my career so I could take necessary actions as if I did not know about it. Every year after that the answer was you are doing good and continue doing what you are doing. For any new opportunity I tried to get my feet wet the managers would listen and that was it and they will try to take it upon themselves so they can get the credit. Eventually I said fakh you and moved on. But it is completely a toxic place in some areas

The Malta site is a terrible place to have a job. 10% of the people work and the rest just live off the welfare system of GlobalFoundries saying how great the company is because they do nothing and get a nice pay check. If you want to fix the site -- fire everyone -- then have people re-apply and hire the correct people with the skills to do the job. This will weed-out the garbage and from here you can build a good company.

My management has been talking about career potential since I started. Individual and in team/group meetings. It has never panned out for anyone on my team. Sure there are a promotions here and there across the team. But it’s so obvious how it gets dolled out. At this point we can all see the pattern. But the mention of potential for past 8 years and really nothing has happened. So I think most are just burnt out on it. For me personally just feels like a lie or like those old timey snake oil salesman at the carnivals

My manager promised me about promotion for two years but never happened. Plus less than 2% raise. Well there are tons of opportunities out there so I quit and get almost 50% TC increase.

I would add it’s years of promises that never pan out. My management chain still makes these claims and talks about the promises and potential. Well it’s been 8-10 years. It’s time to put up or shut up.

This is similar to another recent post.

Once the trust is broken it can never truly be repaired. It’s work - our jobs - not family. There is no loyalty. I am loyal to my family and that’s it. So if you fahk me over at work I am going to remember it - forever. You will never have my trust again and why should you?

Globalfoundries has a history of Fahking everyone over on the big stage and little 1x1 stage. It’s a toxic bad work environment that has been going on for so long that people are tired of getting sh-t on.

And that’s the simple answer to OPs (HR???) original question. Employees have been habitually and chronically lied too and sh-t on for an extended period of time (years). And are tired of it and have reached their breaking point en masse.

One side you create job posting on another side you layoff or ask voluntary retirement or ask to join vendor.

If person left for 60% hike you ask them to join back for same pay

I think people just had enough. Its one thing to go through bad times, etc.

But management is out right and blatantly lying to employees. And it’s gotten so obvious and egregious that people have had enough. I mean some of these lies are down right insulting to one’s intelligence.

It’s really game over for many. And I say good for them. Globalfoundries is toxic and bad to its employees and they are tired of it

So it’s not bad times but rather bad leadership that just got worse and worse.
