Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Process for hollowing out a company

When things start to go bad, the people with the most options on the outside leave first. That leaves the good people who see the problems but think they can help fix them. Eventually those people get burned out when the change doesn't materialize and they start leaving. Eventually all the good people who are left get burnt out trying to do more with less, so they leave too.

That leaves two groups remaining. The first is the true believers - the people that got us into this mess. The second is the hostages - people with no options outside or those treading water until 55.

Yeah. I was the “bust my bu-t” worker trying to help bring meaningful change. I spent years beating my head against a wall trying to alert them to things that’ll happen if we refused to pay attention and address. to Not only did I not see anyone listening or anything changing, when I told them I was leaving, they seemed genuinely shocked. I got the “we truly value your contribution” and “people are our greatest asset” BS. If they are shocked people are leaving in droves, then they are willfully blind. If they aren’t shocked, then they are choosing to offer the standard “corporate speak” dialogue for outgoing employees. Either way, they suck.
