Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Culture is toxic

I guess it's not equally toxic in all departments. Everyone complains about the unhealthy atmosphere but everyone in part contributes to making this place even more toxic. Rarely does anyone try to make this a nicer work environment. What do you think, which department is the most toxic and which department has the healthiest atmosphere?

Yes it is toxic. Mental illness is everywhere in operation personel and their families as evidenced by many events. Very sad.

@2pqg+1h1JyCWP No, production underwriting. I got out of claims when they were just starting to roll the sh-t downhill, and I can read the writing on the wall for UND.

I always knew there was a huge divide between operations and analysts, but yikes -- it's shaping up to be even bigger than I thought.

Vague statements. Could be posted anywhere. I doubt you work for State Farm.

Hypocrisy breeds toxicity. Example: When they say State Farm Family and preach they have ethical standards while then doing opposite. They need to clean up their act.

I'm in the process of moving from operations to a different job level and area and just the glimpses I'm getting are a world of difference, and my current role is pretty cushy.

Yawn. Your weekly post of nonsense. Just like clockwork. You are one of the systems dudes that put in a tough 3 hours everyday before you work on the lawn and watch soccer.

Trying to put all their internet of things and procurement and policy admin and operations/systems into a square third party ho-e means big bonus for so called managers and leaders. Made lotsa folks get big raises and bonus and titles.

Reality is Nepotism reigns at farm and third parties run it. Roadmap of deceit.

Its simple, there is no focus beyond meaningless emails and words towards the employee's health and wellbeing. Go pull up a mass email from last year, count about half those people have left.

Yes customer support jobs will always bed toxic, however, the toxic people refer to isnt the customer based toxicity its the general lack of care for the claim handlers that shows in actions of management.

When State Farm drops its metric focused, six sigma, reduce overhead costs at any expense, mindset the toxicity will slowly recede. Problem is, their bonuses wont be as large so forget that ever happening. Its an executive/customer focused company, and the only entity they can squeeze to make it work is the claim handler, who continually does more for less, with increasing work load and expectations....until they break and leave.

At this point I would argue that high turnover is a cost reduction tactic being employed. That is how little thought and care goes into their core workforce.

Operations is a reflection of the current leadership at SF. Just like the current administration. They know their ratings have tanked across the board and have no clue how to correct it because they think everyone buys their BS.

I’ll make this simple, any customer contact jobs are toxic , you know the important ones. All the other analyst , IT jobs , the ones that are paid well, they are generally happy. They have flexibility, lots of opportunities to take time off etc and development.

The operation leadership is very weak at the company, they never push back on anything to help improve things for their people.

@vtg You must be getting paid next to nothing and have drank way too much of their kool aid to believe in their false narrative.

Operations is IMO the most toxic. Toxicity within the company is caused by its unwillingness to accept anyone who may be interested in something different than another. The inability to accept leads to name calling, generalizations, character assasination, and others that make toxicity cancerous. How does it resolve? Go back to a learning organization not a process organization. Slow down and be patient.
