One person who recently got PIPed told me that he used to work very hard but since they put him on PIP he literally does almost nothing because he absolutely does not believe that extra effort will help him survive. I am trying to put myself in that position and I also believe that I wouldn't do anything to try to survive.

It's about your efforts , the outcome is already known to the management-They really want you gone or stay that's the question to answer not "improvement" . I know people got hospitalized while on PIP worked so hard but manager failed them
If I'm ever PIPed and I think it is unjust in spite of the relative ranking rhetoric I'm done. FU move on.
They PIPed me last year and I expect they will PIP me this year as well. Fortunately, I’m NRE and was guaranteed to pass. I make it my mission to do jack shot all day long. FYEM
That is a question with two answers, if the process will be clear and efficient in the way the PIP works, Maybe. Now, I will not knowing that the PIP system was made by people without any credibility. Remember PIP is a fake layoff to fire people. Nothing else.
When I was on my PIP I actually felt like I worked less (although this was in the middle of the Pandemic, so I worked from home). The only thing is I made more presentations for my supervisor, but it didn't really stress me out. I passed the PIP but then promptly quit with a new job. Division head was confused, but the disrespect the company showed was enough for me to leave. The fact that he didn't understand why I would leave speaks volumes with how out of touch the higher-ups are
Being poorly ranked is not the same as being PIPed. Lots of moderately successful people in the company have been poorly ranked….which they probably define as bottom third or bottom half if they were otherwise a high flyer. I have never heard of an executive who claims he/she was Piped.
Once you had been “blacklisted” or have a black spot in your records, your career here is over. It is a better idea to find another company to work for.
Of course, executives will share that they were once poorly ranked too. Difference is, do you have a sponsor or someone in the ranks to get you back up? Most will not have, and move out if the best option. Everyone will know you were NSI! Why stay and accept zero increment for years!
F n troll. No one PIPed yet this year.
If I was pipped? Mo--ns leave the toxic environment or become one of the toxic ones. If you need a boot to get out of a poisoned pond , then there is something seriously wrong with you.
Why would you go through PIP? Made up my mind long ago that I’d walk if I ever got PIPed…..only exception being if I was extremely close to NRE.
I found out I landed at good despite busting my bu-t for the past year and receiving praise for doing a great job throughout the year. I’m already planning to put in bare minimum because effort means nothing.
If I was pipped I’d put the extra effort into finding a new job, and if I happened to “pass”, it just means extra time for me to job hunt on the clock
Assessment hasn’t finished yet - how “recent” was this supposed pip?
The Personalized Improvement Plan, for quite a few, will actually involve less real work.
Don't forget your management team worked for months to develop that plan.
Just for you.
“Would you put in the extra effort if you were PIPed?”
Was this question meant to be rhetorical?
If that's the case just take the 3mo and leave?
