My manager too is quite transparent. In fact we hear about things early or in advance of it being announced. Very nice down to earth guy.
But what I have (really we the team) found is if you dig a bit more or push on things or apply a little stress to the statements/concepts a bit; you will see despite the transparency things don’t add up or make logical sense and they breakdown.
It’s almost like boilerpoint statements and justifications to assuaging or placating the masses. This over years of hearing different things. A lot of it just doesn’t add up under scrutiny.
Now this means either one of two things;
-
First line mgt are victims of fake news/propaganda like we are. They are just parroting what they have been told by their management and leadership and are clueless victims like us. Pushing the agenda despite it in some cases not making obvious sense .
-
They do know what they saying are lies and their job is to sell it to us.
One example I think the entire company is aware of and exposed too was the roll out of the WORKSMART program and how it was being portrayed. There was an attempt at department meeting discussing it to almost make like a pep rally. Rar-rar this is great for company!! I think at one point one manager asked us to cheer and applaud it or get excited about it. But the audience reaction was muted (a large portion are PhDs can see right through and what this program really was)
Also remember in beginning of pandemic all those statements about not letting anyone go (no layoffs). Something along the lines of ‘we entered this together we will leave it together’ What a crock.
So just be cautious with what you might perceive as transparency it might actually be snail oil they are trying to sell you in a very friendly way
