Rewards team bags most innovative plan design - another joke

So GF bags another award - “Congratulations AP, CB and the rest of the GlobalFoundries total rewards team for your 2022 Global Equity Organization award in the coveted "Most Innovative Plan Design" category.

I just don’t get it in which parallel world I am living in that I fail to see any of the proof points.

I will share what I can without being too specific

current (GF)
title: mid eng
YOE: 7
degree: undergrad
typical work load: 45-50 hours/week
TC: $170k/year
satisfaction: 5/10

recent offer from semi company
COL: close to same
title: sr eng
relo: closing costs, movers, flights, car transport, house hunting, mad money = ~$75k taxable
TC: $180k/year (140k base, rest is different bonuses)

@4nks $180k TC in Boston is like $140k or less in Malta. Beware

@5srd I have only worked for GF, so I only know what I read on websites like glassdoor and teamblind. Pretty similar gripes at every semi company. Maybe if I had experience at different companies I would agree.

Ok so bit of a loaded question but excluding the factors you mention:

And assuming a US based position.

Really thinking about it and trying making a ranking based list and justifying the rankings. Really the top of the list can fluctuate depending on other factors but there is one constant. Honestly the top spots can be any of the others depends on other factors (subjective) but there is one constant on every iteration of the list….

GF is the worst. The absolute bottom of the list. It treats it employs in a similar fashion as Amazon. The Amazon of employment for semiconductor industry. I challenge you to name a place that’s is overall worse (using same criteria outlined in your post)? Because I cannot.

Sure I have heard horror stories about other places. In fact recently our manager was describing to us how terrible Intel sounded. (A lot of people left in last year to Intel). While citing examples and “facts/data” …. It became clear that those same gripes/hearsay Intel complaints can be directly applied to GF almost identically - except Intel pays more!!. In fact it sounded like he was describing us (GF) in the middle of his diatribe. He stopped his rant after a few comments from the peanut gallery asking if he is describing Intel or GF realizing it was backfiring.

But to answer you question with applied criteria look at big companies; Intel Samsung tsmc apple Google Raytheon Broadcom Qualcomm.
Even smaller ones micron, applied materials, Quorvo, groq Marvell, cree, tower, onsemi, etc. etc.

Every single one is superior to GF in how they compensate their employees. And in nearly every possible way. Also the big one for me - they appear less toxic and straightforward- no bs. You hit your marks you get raise or promoted. There is none of this misdirection and being misled about how things work behind management curtain. Don’t get me wrong ever place has its issues. But GF is an cesspool but they try gussy it up too look attractive. From what I can tell from reading this board the biggest problems GF has is the mistruths and lack of transparency.

Short summary: Of all the places I have worked in career, GF by far ranks by a large margin dead last.

To answer you question the other places while having their own individual issues do have better salaries and compensation, no toxic work environments, significantly less work load/stress per headcount, genuinely treat employee like professionals (not fake masquerade amateur show GF puts on)

I've talked with recruiters about comp for similar roles to mine and gotten a couple offers from semi companies. Tell me which companies are better and why. Base it purely on TC, you can leave out factors like culture, being in a red state and hidden cost of living factors most people only find out about after moving 2k miles and settling in.

Also I don't think anyone here is wrong. It depends a lot on what your role is, what you started at, and what your managers have done for you since.

While what you claimed you received might be true. ( definitely first time I have heard of one of our GF peers getting such compensation set up)

You are definitely wrong about it being competitive “for this area.” If you mean industry - No all the big players are way better on this matter…just poking around a little on Google will show you this isn’t true.

GF is notoriously low compensation when compared to others. Even way smaller places are better are better.

If you mean in ny area…. No onsemi and wolfspeed/cree is superior…

Not sure where you are getting your information but just do some research or speak to people at these companies.

@1oum I am happy with the equity offerings. Last year I had nothing. This year I got 50 free shares and even more shares as a LTI for being a L7. I also have the opportunity to invest my money at a discount. It could be better, and it could be a lot worse. I'll stick with being thankful for what I got. It's not peanuts. It's competitive for this area, and for the industry whether you want to believe it or not.

Thanks AP, CB and GF.

That’s the attitude that keeps it going. The bu-----t….

Others see this and they can put 2 and 2 together as well.

It makes us (GF) look amateurish. Child like compared our competitors.

So I disagree this stuff needs to end and we need to start being vocal about it.

GEO should be punished or disbanded…. Who is organizing it?? They are clearly not reparable organization. Someone in the press should write a story on them
