Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

You don't want to start your career at AIG

You'll learn all the wrong things. You'll learn that working hard doesn't mean being recognized with bonuses, raises, or promotions, but being saddled with even more work. You'll also learn that it's okay to increase the volume of your work while keeping your pay at the same level. You'll learn that even if managers act like bullies, there's nothing you can do about it because HR is there to protect the company and not you. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Before AIG I worked for another insurance company, I was paid way less there and the job was a sh1t, but still you had a lot of benefits, while in AIG they seem to not care at all about our wellness. What surprise you is the general feeling that AIG want to just exploit you in some way, whenever you get a promotion or a pay rise or whatever there is ever and ever something that let you down somehow, like they want to make clear " don't get too happy little sh1t, remember you are only trash ! " :-)

All corporations are similar, but few allow their executives to under produce and get paid at the level of AIG executive. Then pay for those salaries and bonuses on the backs of their employees. While most corporations and CEOs are greedy, most are smart enough to understand that if you don't take care of field staff you don't get new business. The unique dynamic at AIG is that executives care little about the company or the future because they are guaranteed salaries so in a few years they just retire and leave the mess to the next group who figures out how to plunder a few years and they move on. Over and over and over this happens until eventually there will be nothing left to plunder. That is in the crystal ball for AIG. The only question is how long until the well runs dry for the executives and for you.
