Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

New hires are only slightly less paid

I was actually glad to learn that new hire has almost the same salary as me, even though I've been loyal to GF for years.

But on the other hand, isn't it a little humiliating when they equate someone who has just arrived and who has almost no experience and me with many years of experience and a bigger skillset?

I took it as if the company didn’t care at all about keeping the long term employees.

If you want a JOB, great place. If you want a career, look elsewhere.

If you're a senior process tech making less than $25/hour , your manager and GF has already failed you. Either transfer to another team and hope for a more competent manager or quit.

GF is terrible place to work.

Get out while the getting is good

@2vwq it depends, what do you want to do, and are you tied to this area? and is wage the only important factor?

are you comfortable being a PT (clock in/clock out) or do you have higher aspirations?

if you're comfy, I don't think you will find anything better locally tbh... especially if you are chasing a few cents/dollars per hour. GF's benefits will outweigh that. You can net more if you're willing to move, but that's up to you

if you want more (e.g. higher tech role or PE/SE), then stick with GF and develop a plan to get there with your manager/the engineering manager. Use GF to pay for higher education. Worst case you have a degree, you've probably learned more and are more marketable

I’m making less than $25 as a Sr. Process Tech… sh-t.

One problem I have is there’s not many technician jobs if you don’t want to relocate. Marcy is a little far. What kind of titles should I be looking for in the area?

If you are not making at minimum $25 per hour as a Process Technician ……. You may want to start thinking of employment elsewhere. Trust in what you know and get paid for what you are worth. Been @ GF 13 years and starting pay was $25 per hour with zero experience in the field. When it was time to take what I learned from GF and apply it to another company I was making $7 more an hour ( $32) but the toxic environment pushed me out the door. Now I make more and without a toxic manager environment. Keep up that job search and eventually things will fall into place. TEL , Amat and other similar companies pay much more fair.

GF is only good for new hires…. So they can get experience and then move on to much higher paying positions else where…. This is a common strategy out there for new grads who can’t land their first choice job

New hires will leave after two to three years. Because they will be a experienced and under paid, just like us.
