Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Bad Ideas start at the top

Whole new concept on trying to get the most productivity with the least amount of hours and staff. The time study was done on paper in a store while it was closed. So they never factored in the customers. Basically you do every job in the store for your section ie ops, pricing specialist, do freight, floor moves , pos events signing and put away. That’s right during your 8 hour shift while serving customers to make your conversion. I forgot pulling cds orders bopus curbside and ssl. Sounds like a great day right. No wonder so many great people are leaving. So to the corporate goon who came up with this awesome plan please take a day in a store and try this yourself. I’m sure you will be running back home to your laptop spewing more new ideas to save this company.

What you are blaming on bad ideas is really poor execution. Take responsibility for your actions and acknowledge you can do better. The plan works, work the plan!

This is nothing new. Way back when, pre 2008, my district and regional ops spent an entire week upstairs watching the CS desk and cashiers to do a time study. They counted items rung up, gift packaging, etc. In conclusion they said I needed to schedule 178 additional hours per week on the front end. Well we were getting 620 hours a week and the front was getting 130 of those, but so how they the workload required 308 hours according to them. Today I’d love to have the hours we had back then, but the out of touch mentality has been around for quite a while now.

How about not selling junk and bring back better products. That would bring the customers in not making 1 person run around like a jerk!
