PSG moves?

How frequently should we expect a psg bump? Does it differ across orgs? I’ve been in the same psg for years and am not sure if this is normal for non hipo employees?

If you get stuck just apply for places jobs at the next PSG and you can get promoted every 3-4 years.

Early often, later not so often. Bottom line, get off of your butts, stop being ok with mediocrity, accept the tough assignments not only the cupcakes. Do something to make yourself promotable.

If you're past 10-15 years experience, expect a PSG advancement about every decade, in other words, only 2-3 more if you make it to a reasonable retirement age. Anything faster than that, either you're young in your career or you're a high-pot.

@1wps: why do you post this same comment on every thread? Many current employees visit this site to get off the official feed insights to company changes; and yes including any future layoffs. The real question is why you continue to troll this site years after you were laid off: it’s time you pull your finger out and move on!

For laid off people? Not sure why you post this question here is all.

as much as we all like to believe that promotions are based on meritocracy, it only boils down to whether your manager likes you or not. i have seen cronies and rumored underlings-with-benefit (benefitting whoever she was reporting to kbviously) getting frequent promotions but more deserving folks were getting passed over for years. so yeah, if you are gunning for a promotion the first thing to do is to get into your manager's good books.

I try to get a psg move every ten years whether I deserve it or not.

Most petrotechs plateau after a decade or two if you stay in the same (similar) position. The best way to get promoted faster is to change positions into one with more responsibilities or to position yourself to grow with very high dollar assets. Either way, as you rise up you will be completing with more folks for the advanced position.

As a white male, I was promoted every 2-3 years my first 15 years. Then I was "stuck" for 4 years, then 5!

PSG is not dictated by length of time. Rather it’s by contributions and whether you are contributing at the next PSG level and would be competitive at that level. Also, it is harder to get a promotion as you go up in PSG.

It really depends on how hard you work, how many senior people like you and how much time you are willing to give to the company (international moves etc). Right now, it is huge if you are a woman or a minority. If you are a white male, I would say you will need to wait longer for that promo and you will be looking for jobs that absolutely no one else wants.
