Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Always be prepared

When people say I should always be prepared for layoffs, how exactly should I be prepared?

If you are talking about mental preparation - no matter how mentally prepared someone is to hear that their name is on the layoff list, it will not be stress free.

If you are talking about savings - for most people it is impossible to have enough savings to be worry free in case they lose their jobs.

Just to give some people hope: I was in FS and I was laid off by HCL early this month. I had an interview the second week of unemployment and was offered a position doing the same thing I was at Ascension, for $30k more. And it's 20 minutes closer to my home.

Better jobs exist! Go for it!

Ditto. Was trying to coast it into retirement like I saw so many of my other coworkers do. Bit me in the a-s!

When I left ascension tech, I was extremely stale. You can I’ll have your work ahead of you but I make 40 grand more than what I made at ascension. Take advantage of certs and o line training.

It means keep your resume updated and go after IT certifications to increase your skills and make you more marketable for when the inevitable happens. If you’re linked in and resume aren’t you yo date, start working on that before the next round begins. I’m still with AT but our days are numbered and I’m actively working to GTFO.
