Yes, at least on successful age discrimination suit from circa 2016, class action no doubt to follow.
This is not about being white or non-white, male or female -- Chevron is specifically downgrading PSGs and eliminating experienced workers. The company much prefers the "new model" to the "old model". You may think this is not your issue now if you're <40.

@2lip, you're obviously too young to have been 'discreetly' approached 3 times 2015-2020 and be 'encouraged' to consider retirement. By 2020 it was just, 'if you don't retire, you'll probably be laid off.
Of course those who are older are likely more financially secure and could retire, thus higher percentage of EOI. DUH….
I took the EOI package in an earlier re-org. CVX H.R. provided the EOI applicants with the age demographics of the EOI pool. If I recall correctly about 85% of the EOI applicants were 50+ year old.
The next phase of the re-org was the "involuntary" layoffs. I heard from credible sources that >70% of this group was also the 50+ population.
Draw your own conclusions, but to me it is obvious that ageism is alive and well, not only in CVX, but in the wider corporate world.

The current retiree medical benefit only offered if you make it to 50 years old and with minimum 10 years of service. Benefit is not guaranteed, days so right on cover page of benefit plan document.
@wxu, similar experience. My last five years before the glorious 2020 severance were marked with 0% raises (“but look at your bonus!”), being told there was no way I was getting promoted, being ignored when opinions were sought, and being passed over so inexperienced high pots could get management positions. Not to worry, that severance package was wonderful, the remaining staff can only dream of making it to around 60 and being paid to retire early. Never mind the organizational turmoil and lack of long term vision facing Chevron now!
Unless you’re a VP or on the board...you can be as old and as white as you want!
Being white and 50 or older at CVX is essentially a death sentence when layoffs come along.

I was asked by two managers why didn't I just take the EOI? I was then told by my direct supervisor that he had convinced one job owner not to select me because of my age.
It’s a double edge sword being over a certain age. On the plus side, age usually goes hand-in-hand with experience, which is a valuable asset to keep. On the other hand, the older an employee is, the higher cost burden he/she becomes (higher pay, higher cost of insurance, higher pension accrual). Which way to go in a decision of who stays and who goes is up to a few people in the company. It’s the deciders that matter how their decisions will affect the company.
I "retired" during the last wave of reorganization and severance packages. I can't speak for all "older" employees or former older employees but will share my personal experience. During my last year and half of employment I was interested in changing positions and when I spoke to my PDR he told me that he looked at my information and based on my age (similar to his) wasn't I ready to retire--why did I want another position. I also spoke to a job owner and she flat out told me that she was looking for a younger person for her position.
Absolutely all males especially white males are being pushed out of the door....someday the company and its shareholders will regret the discrimination they have allowed MW and his Woke queen to implement in the name of inclusion
