Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Compensation Expectations

Compensation increase is supposed to come from three different sources:

  • salary raise in Fall
  • the just announced bonus remix
  • CR

ELT hyped the bonus remix quite a lot that I don't put much hope in a significant salary raise. I expect a minor to modest salary raise which ELT tries to sell as stellar ... never seen before in the(ir) universe.

@jay+1gZYhZZ4, you obviously don't work at Cisco.

But, to explain it, the ELT said that surveys said that the majority of employees wanted more money in their pocket and smaller bonuses. So the ELT came up with some fancy math and figured out how to decrease your bonus by 5%, and increase your base pay such that the amount of your new lower bonus (-5%) plus your increased base pay is equal to what your original base pay was plus your original bonus.

That's great, for the average worker who didn't get above average individual performance factors. But if you used to have a bonus factor of 1.5, or 150%, then you used to have your bonus increased by that +0.5 IPF. Instead of your base pay times your bonus percent , say 12%, times 1.5, it's now your base pay times your new bonus percent (12-5=7) times 1.5, so your overall bonus is now smaller than before.

And, the ELT is going to say that, with the 5% increase in pay due to cannibalizing your bonus, your new pay raise of 2-3% is really a 7-8% raise to match inflation. But it's not because the whole purpose of the bonus remix was to keep the total compensation the same, but with more base pay and less bonus pay.

What is bonus remix? If I had a 15pc bonus , does that come as base pay? Which means zero bonus and a 15 pc raise ?
