Property taxes from affluent areas in Texas do go to schools, just not the ones in your area. We're footing the bill for those lazy rubes out in the middle of no where.
Look up Texas Robin Hood laws for details.

@elk we pay less in electric and gas for our 4K sq ft home in Houston than we did for our 2100 sq ft home in the east bay. PG&E is ridiculous.
Property taxes do suck. At least the bulk of it actually goes to the schools though, which are much better than MDUSD schools back in California
Make your choices by the time the lease runs out, or the choice will be made for you.
Bleeding hearts of the rich unite. Boo hoo!
The peak has juuuuust passed for real estate. We will keep our place in CA and rent it out until we return. It is paid for and we can rent it for $5500/mo which should cover Houston costs.
The realtor fee on our Danville home will be $150,000 so we are thrilled to have it covered.
If they offer a relo package, take it!
We were planning to retire to a tax free state to avoid the hit to the RRP. This is like a gift!
staying in CA for as long as we can
Over the past 5-6 years at Chevron there has been way too much change. I understand at times things have to change but not this often and this much. People are getting tired of layoffs and all the other things going on. Time to stop this madness for a little while and let things calm down.
Big houses in Texas come with big property taxes and huge electrical and water bills.
Poor babies. Such a sad day. I feel so bad for you.
Nope, tired of Chevron changing things up on us constantly over the last 7 years. This is the last straw, I’m not moving to Texas for more re-orgs and layoffs.
You can read the domestic relo package online. All selling, buying and moving costs fully covered. Your commute will be horrifying unless you live close.
Perhaps what is the relocation package. I’m tired of CA politics my small house in a semi ok area and a cr-p commute. Seems like Texas I can get a larger house friendly people and get away from my in laws . How sweet is the relo?
