I certainly know corp's upstream campaigns there have been nothing but a disaster, though a straight executive termination/separation is something unheard (to me) while working for XOM.

Some others were also removed… sounds like the XOM “pressure to perform” may have caused some poor decisions… We Are EXXONMOBIL!
Lead Country Managers (LCM) often move about, so maybe that's it.
Or bribery/kickback schemes and indictments have undone a few.
Hard to say.
