Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What’s the future of Geosciences? LCS??

I am surprised by the number of geoscientists being pulled into LCS. Are we giving up on Exploration?

We have as many geos now as we did in 2000-2004 and yet only about 25% of the work. Really puzzled why we need that many. Nothing in the exploration pipeline and very few significant operated assets left outside of Permian and Guyana. LCS just doesn't seem like it will ever have enough work for the current headcount. Dallas made it clear in the 2020 layoffs geos are no longer valued by the corp.

The future of geoscience may be something other than O and G exploration and production, but the future of the majority of the geoscientists in XOM is unemployment or another discipline.

The general population realizes this and it's driving the exodus. Notice the embarrassingly late and out-of-touch geo leadership efforts to reassure folks that the future is bright for the job 'family'. Be wary.

LCS is nothing but greenwashing. There is no regulatory framework for CCS offshore GOM in Fed waters yet and no carbon price to figure out if there is any money to be made. EM is not a non'profit organization. Holding place for pets until management can figure out what to do with them.

Axed/pip’d. There are too many redundant roles such as geologist and engineers. That many are not needed.
