As the first poster said, this is a load of bollocks. What, they're getting rid of 50% of the US workforce? Get real

As much as I'd love to be on the list - I don't see it:

  1. IBM is seeing attrition faster than hiring; and is struggling to hire.
  2. IBM isn't stupid enough to pi-s off enough clients by backing out of such a massive amount of contracts or incur the legal / concession costs associated;
  3. These posts of massive layoffs are always over-blown and never turn out to be anywhere near what they "predict";
  4. Isn't there a WARN act in the US that they'd have to go through?

How many times have there been crickets on the day they predicted? How many times has it been predicted that IBM will be "half the size this time next year?"

Sounds like boy who cried wolf who wants attention. And we're giving it to him.

It's been downhill ever since they jumped on the cloud bandwagon.
Nobody will admit it and the bluebirds keep making excuses for RH.
$34b later and you're talking about RA's not growth so...

I'm highly skeptical of this post; however, in two of the last three years, IBM has had big RAs the Thursday before Memorial Day, which would be May 26th this year (i.e., this coming Thursday).

1kqt There is a 6th point to be added to your list. Approx 1/3 of GBS engagements do not make a significant profit. There is a reason IBM is partnering with ISV’s. They wish to escape these black ho-e engagements without burning bridges.

You can get to 38k but you have to take AK’s previous words of “partnership” as fact. Look at the potential IBM business thru “enterprise” eyes, and adopt completely what exec management has been telling the street. Partnerships get you there

  1. Remove 2/3 of infrastructure (scaleout power and storage)
  2. Remove WH
  3. Remove the overlap of legacy IBM cloud SW with Redhat Linus solutions
  4. Remove the Intel side of IBM cloud with amazon
  5. Trim 35-40% of management

Guess what you are there

They are soon running out of older employees to fire.

This a nothing burger , highly doubt this is true

Doesn’t make any sense for this to be true. There’s been so much attrition in the last few months especially from IBM Cloud. So which org would this impact?

Ibm can’t RA because they can’t hire anyone qualified. Don’t get me wrong. Ibm is itching to fire people for tactical profit expansion and making all kinds of lists. But job market is hot and ibm brand is well known be a dead end. Everyone I know at Ibm is thinking ‘Make my day’.

What do you mean “different”

38k would be almost 50% of the NA headcount (USA 73k and Canada 4k) Cutting any company by 50% would be quite serious to its future

I’m assuming you mean “americas” not NA? I’m also assuming since this is wave 1, there will be a wave 2 that will fall on Europe and Asia of approx 40k?
