The constant talk about how our pay is substandard compared to other similar companies got me thinking about that. I have a couple of friend that work in similar roles at other oil companies, and, judging from what they say, the pay and benefits are more or less the same as mine.
Is this just “the grass is greener on the other side” talk, or is there more to this? Do any of you know any actual people that earn more and have better benefits that work at similar roles?

I worked at P66 for 10 years then joined MPC. I make 50% more at MPC than I did at P66, with more enjoyable work. P66 is cutting costs, down grading positions, and eliminating FTEs like crazy. Have been for years. So more work for less pay. For the area I work in, team members generally make much more at MPC than P66. P66 used to pay very well years ago, but their cost cutting has eliminated that. Trust me… MPC is a much better place to be. The only item better at P66 is their 19/30 work schedule.
MPC knows they are the lowest paying employer. They pay on average $15k under industry. Mike is just allowing the bleeding to continue to lower the overall cost basis in order to deploy the largest golden parachute possible in a couple years. He could care less if a refinery explodes afterwards. After all he chopped up Sunoco in order to “maximize shareholder value”. How did that turn out?
Texas Toast- you’re right overall ANDV employees were making/make loads more than MPC. I’m surprised the MPC folks just stand by and are ok with that lol! We’ve also taken so many mgmt level positions that we’re in a better position to move up.
LOL @ NPC!
Andeavor personnel are exceptional and clearly better than Marathon. Mr. NPC is just bu-t hurt that ANDV people make more money and are regularly poached by other companies. Nobody is knocking on any door in Findlay looking for talent. Almost all of the Andeavor executives refused to go to Findlay, instead they went on to bigger and better things, FOR GOOD REASON! Marathon will probably be broken up, hopefully Andeavor can rise from the ashes without the nasty tick that is Findlay and their staff full of averages.
See this older post on the topic - the MPC employees rarely get offers at competitors but the ANDV folk certainly have and will continue to do so.

I don’t think we paid a discount for Andeavor….
Yes, our pay really is substandard. I think that’s why we end up with so many frauds/slackers/incompetent employees. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good people but many fall into the categories above. You get what you pay for and MPC loves discounted junk- people and assets (Andeavor).
Please resign today and apply at P66, Exxon, Citco, etc. Do not think any of you complainers will be hired by those companies. The talent level difference between them and MPC is like that of the NBA compared to NCAA Basketball. No comparison.
I’ve said this for years, MPC pay is based around these middle of nowhere, small towns where the pay is good for that location. I lived outside one of these MPC bubbles for some time, and I did not like I was making much money at all. In my field, we are paid about 15-30k less than competitors. Why am I still here do you ask? Well, I naively thought I’d move up and have good opportunities. Also, bonus is ate up by taxes and the retirement account is simply a savings account they contribute a small amount too. I have a job interview next week, hoping I can get out!
Found the old over paid white dude who loves Findlay
I’d gladly be paid less than have to live in Houston or San Antonio. Wish everyone would stop complaining
First job huh
Look at the proxy statements for MPC / VLO / P66. They all identify the median employee pay as part of the CEO to median employee pay ratio. Our median is 20k behind P66 and almost 50k behind VLO
