Company's reputation has really dropped. It used to be a privilege to work here. Isn't it sad to hear what people in the industry think about EM now? Everything I hear is very negative.

Is there any, seriously??Nah!
Archaic forced ranking system, unjust termination of employee with PIP's coupled with the severely stretched workforce. Where have we gone wrong all this years???? Remember, Rome is not built in a single day. Exxon is where they are today due to decisions the upper mgmt chose/took all those years
“EV revolution” LMFAO
I never thought of the analogy before but I now see Durwood is the Dennis Hopper character in Waterworld (a fun movie).
Dennis Hopper has a great reputation.
“Need to repair reputation”
That bus left a few decades ago.
Short of a total purge of management and a complete rebrand, EM will the always be known as the people who knowingly accelerated global warming, profited directly from war, cozied up to third-world dictators, and threw stacks of fresh cash at reactionary lunatics seeking political office.
Example of our terrible leadership is the gal who went from Midland to Africa. Not a leader but she has a sponsor. She couldn’t create clarity or make decisions. Always said she had to have everything and couldn’t make tough choices.
What reputation do you want restored? How employees and potential employees view us? Now I do agree that if you restore employee trust we are all more likely to be loyal and advocate for the company. Didn’t we all used to look a bit past the external reputation because of the benefits of being employed? 2020 kicked off a hard time and while we don’t like it, hard choices had to be made to preserve value to our shareholders. Not popular, I know, but none of us had all the info that the c suite had so of course it’s easy for us to second guess the decisions.
Yes they do need to restore trust and I’m optimistic that will happen as the business environment improves. When XOM is at the top of its game we all benefit. Those that have been around long enough have seen those days. Again, maybe not popular but it’s on every one of us to bring about meaningful change, improve the culture and the business. Let’s be optimistic that we can do it together. We all have to be rowing in the same direction. Stay fragmented and we fail.
Summing up what @axi+1gNuj0JV wrote, everybody knows Exxon executive management is gutless, heartless, and brainless. They are not going to compensate the employees that were unjustly PIP'd, make up for the lost 401K for the whole year in the US, restore completely COLA or benefits that was reduced or eliminated, adjust for the paltry or no raises the last few years (they probably thought we should be so grateful for the 3% non benefit bearing bonus for the US employees since they thought inflation was "transitory"). Does anybody doubt that these things won't continue or be implemented again when the next downturn comes? So what are you going to do about it? The best time to look for another job/career is when you have one. I left at the beginning of this year and while grass is not always greener on the other side, at least I don't have to deal with gutless, heartless, brainless "leadership". I hope karma catches up with these people.
Reputation? Really?
The most despised company on the planet for years.
From US to Brasil to Botswana.
You are quite the joker. Reputation.
I believe that, during 2020/21, employee's trust in the management/leadership community was broken profoundly.
The forced 8% pips, the poorly executed layoffs, the campus forced repopulation early during the pandemic, the suspension of the 7% matching, the meager salary increases, all these combined with a culture that rewards upwards management, sleaziness, schmoozing, subjective sponsorship, at the expense of collaboration, technical excellence, creativity, innovation and execution.
To add insult over injury, management now (2022) fails to acknowledge this breach of trust and present itself with a forward attitude, with promises of fun, caring about the environment, support to workplace flexibility, inclusion, diversity, and assume that the memory of 2020/21 can be erased with a superficial reorganization, promises of career progression, and miserable cash bonuses.
Trust is still broken and has not been restored. Untill management don't recognize this simple truth, nothing will work, attrition will continue and the company will continue sleeping into obsolescence and irrelevance.
The only thing that is holding XOM rt now is its stock price which will likely get decimated after summer when oil prices crash again by world leaders to cool off inflation. DW and his team are aware of this and thus, they never cared about attrition nor attempted to raise salaries because they are smart and never forgotten that O&G industry has always been cyclical but now is starting to diminish with the recent EV revolution. Hope the many that will be reading this comment learn something and make the best decision for their future.
