Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Goodbye Dearborn! Adios Michigan.

Can we start by moving Purchasing to Mexico?

Ford of Mexico has undergone extensive changes in recent months, with a bevy of new products launching in the North American country as well. Roughly one year ago, FoMoCo launched a fully online buying experience in Mexico via the Ford Digital Store. Additionally, the Hermosillo Assembly plant – where the Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Maverick are built – was recently named the best in North America, while the 2022 Ford E-Transit and 2022 Ford Expedition launched in that country back in March. Now, Ford of Mexico has also been chosen as one of three sites to host a new Global Technology and Business Center, along with India and Hungary.

“Globally, Ford continues to transform itself to accelerate the development and production of connected and innovative electric vehicles, but also to position itself as a technology solutions company with a much broader business vision,” said Luz Elena del Castillo, president and CEO of Ford in Mexico. “To achieve this, we know that we must strengthen the operational performance of each of the regions where we have a presence and make the most of the capabilities of all teams.”

Since it began operations last year, Ford’s Global Technology and Business Center of Mexico has resulted in cost savings of around $14 million and contributed to more than 30 automation projects that are estimated to add more than $40 million in profit. The center has also resulted in the hiring of around 600 people. The new site will focus on Product Development and Purchasing, Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, and After-Sales.

“Today, Ford of Mexico has managed to position itself as one of the most important regions for the operation of the firm globally and, with this new Global Technology and Business Center, we will become a fundamental arm for the business, while highlighting the great talent that exists in our country,” added Laura Castro, director of the Technology and Business Center of Ford of Mexico.

Ford culture is toxic but it is survivable, if the right tactics are used. Compartmentalize. Think about future plans away from your job. Distract yourself from the brutal reality under harsh working conditions. Having hope is a weakness. Deny yourself hope because it could be taken away at any moment by the inhumane nature of your management.

Goodbye Dearborn - It can't happen soon enough! Your vehicles s-u-c-k! And nobody (Billy, executives, management, salaried, or union) at Ford cares as long as they are getting some more money! Everyone of you sold out your souls for money, not just the CEOs, executives, or Ford family.

The ones who actually care left Ford years ago - or they leave within 2 years of new employment at Ford - once they find out the "real" culture. And not through retirement, either. The people who sat around to collect their pension (and doing very little at the same time) all these years are just as bad, if not worse, than the game players/DEI candidates you all complain about these days getting promoted to LL6+ positions.

You all sit here crying on this website about how bad the company, Billy Ford, management, fellow non-workers/coffee club/ walking club personnel (but everyone is a great employee while working from home), UAW, and probably even the outsourced custodial staff. Note to all of you exemplary employees here complaining - there is nobody left in the company to do any real work - you have all basically told us that everyone is a low performer at Ford. No wonder your products are pathetic. Nobody at Ford is working. And everyone complaining on this site thinks they are a high achiever. Who cares if Ford moves resources to Mexico - nobody who has ever bought a Ford (and doesn't work there) in the last 20 years wants to make that mistake ever again!

You people think you have it bad - your actual customers and suppliers (in Ford speak, partners - wink, wink) have put up with your company s-h-i-t for decades. If anyone of you whiners actually cared, you would be writing about how Ford and it's employees have treated anyone outside the company for DECADES! Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs due to Ford sourcing and nobody on this site has ever cared. Now you are all whining about your jobs "potentially" going to Mexico - just greedy, nasty people work at Ford! It is just that plain and simple.

Now, go look in the mirror and say "mirror, mirror on the wall....am I not the greatest worker of them all" and then give this posting a down arrow. More down arrows will just prove my point I am making.

@1tbv+1gN3P5j3 Depends on what you mean by top, ‘has been/dying’ companies like Ford, GE, IBM ? Or long term innovative companies like Gore Technologies and their ilk?

You can tell the toxic companies from the non-toxic companies. Let’s take two software companies IBM and BMC. Notice how the last entry in BMC is 2020? And IBM has constant entries just like Ford.

But sure go ahead with the Ford group think and claims that Ford is just as bad as the top 500 companies if that makes you feel better. WooHoo we suk as much as other toxic companies! cue the Ford PomPom squad.

@1yii You do realize the top 500 American companies, if not 1000, have a thread on The Layoff so your statement makes you look like a fool.

I know a lot of folks around the industry. Right now Ford has the most toxic culture I've heard of. Anyone claiming that every company is dealing with this needs their head examined.

@1opj you do realize that the vast majority of companies have no presence on this site?
Your comparison is like a fly comparing the whole world to just the pit toilets it has been visiting.

@1ddr All companies are. One day, for sh1ts and giggles, I perused other companies' threads at The Layoff. You can interchange the comments here with any company and it's the same frustrations (layoffs, poor leadership, etc...) at every company out there.

I bought a Focus years ago that was built at Hermosillo Assembly. Poor quality AFAIC. My current car, a Fusion built at Flat Rock, much better quality. 130,000 miles and still going, although stuff is wearing out like it would on any car. Wheel bearings, suspension items due to the bad roads in MI, but whatever.

After dealing with all the quality issues with my last Mustang GT, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE OR LEASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT, EVER. Hopefully, Laura Castro is ensuring Mexican employees are compensated appropriately to afford to buy the vehicles they are building.

"cost savings of around $14 million and contributed to more than 30 automation projects that are estimated to add more than $40 million in profit"

Yeah, big deal. Doesn't even come close to paying for just 1 of our recalls this year. Not. Even. Close.

For sure stick a fork in Dearborn, it’s done.

You have to wonder though how does Bill, the environmentalist, square the expansion in an area where the aquifer can’t support the current population, agriculture and industry? Marine Intrusion has been a problem with the aquifer as the water levels fell below sea level. Always great news to have salt water in your aquifer.
Just a temporary pillaging before moving to an even lower cost country?

"The new site will focus on Product Development and Purchasing, Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, and After-Sales."

What's left?!? 🤣

I hope the UAW responds by telling their members to boycott any model made in Mexico. Mach-E, Bronco Sport, Escape, and Maverick. What else?

Make them pay!
