Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Relationship with the manager

The way my manager behaves never ceases to amaze me. I tried my best to understand the reason for his animosity towards me. The person is sabotaging me from moving up, for no reason at all, and he is also actively sabotaging the workplace culture. Some other colleagues have similar problems with him. I wonder how many more such managers are here who like to sabotage their employees?

They do this to entertain themselves. They are powerless outside of the Ford culture since the the only skills they have is sucking up to the LL4, LL3, etc. Ford is the House of Ineptitude (HOI).

Once again, Ford is saying one thing and doing another. If they lived up to their claims, managers like this would be reprimanded, demoted, and/or fired. Nope, they get a pat on the back and an attaboy. Sickening.

@ 3bef+1gGT3i5M. On point #2, got flashback heebies reading that. The whole team got one of those surveys after our train-wreck of an LL6 got horrible pulse scores. Half of us just hit the delete button because it felt like an HR frame-up. Those that responded truthfully to the second survey were all fired / quit within a year. Three that remained were SRD in 2019. The train wreck of an LL6 was allowed to retire on his own timetable in 2021 after 30 years of harassing, bullying and abusing people all with HR knowledge. I saw the S.O.B. at the golf course today, still a loud mouth abusive drunk even in retirement. He has zero power now so he is even more obnoxious trying to dominate people who just walk away from him.

OP- Advice from a old timer

  1. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, talk about this to HR. They dont like the "talk".

BUT, and this is exactly opposite to 1,

  1. If you get a survey as to whether your manager harasses you. Take the survey and save the survey with you. The questions will be like "does your manager shout at you" "se-----y harasses you" "has soft corner for others" animosity etc. All the questions will be such that a sane normal person would be inclined to say "NO". It is designed that way. All they want to put on record is that you were in no way harassed. So that you cant have a recourse if let go. TAKE THE SURVEY TRUTHFULLY. AND LET EVERYONE ELSE IN THE TEAM also know about taking the survey truthfully (ALL IN THE TEAM WILL GET THE SURVEY).

@OP don’t waste your time on trying to figure out managers behaviors. Most are just protecting their turf. Anyone who is highly skilled, highly knowledgeable and well respected by others is a threat to them. They will sabotage and undermine the threats as that is the only skill they have, and it is how they got promoted in the first place.

You may find a unicorn manager here and there at Ford, but those rare good ones either end up getting pushed out by the others or falling in line and behaving just as the others do.

Spend your time finding a better place to work.

All they are, are the Monkeys in Charge of the Bananas. For Ex: Jim Farley and Bill Ford Jr. P.S. Has anyone seen Joe Hinrich?

Ford Managers; LL6 & above have this habit of giving stellar reviews to their friends. I used to work in a team that was ok, manager too was ok; not good not bad, however, he was always more than generous in giving rave reviews to the kids of this fellow LL working in our team.

I had a team leader who sabotaged me in every possible way. She accused me of hanging up the phone calls to car dealerships, of easing my work by delegating it to colleagues and of my unprofessional behaviour. My reviews have gotten very bad. She gave stellar reviews only to her friends, in particular to one of her friends who had moved into her house for 6 months, later promoting her as a team leader. Of course, HR did nothing. But the game didn't last long. A new floor manager didn't buy all her lies and her games. After a year and a half, she was no longer advancing her career and left Ford with the excuse of family reasons. A despicable person.

When I worked for Ford, the main criteria to getting promoted was the willingness to relocate, regardless of how inept or how low the IQ. Plenty of ignorant people climbed the ladder until the Peter Principal ultimately prevailed. Then Ford found itself stuck with pools of incompetent people. This is a primary reason for the fact that if you bought Ford stock exactly 25 years ago today, you would have realized 0 appreciation (of course dividends would have trickled in over the years). Meanwhile, there was a young man working as a farm hand in Saskatchewan in the 90s who would go on to start an auto company that would become worth 20 times what Ford is worth and make him the richest person on earth. He employs none of the same management styles that we see at Ford. The ability to produce and bring intelligent ideas are key determinants of one’s success at this trillion dollar company that will be worth five trillion in 20 years. I’m one of the lucky ones that reached the finish line at Ford and collected a pension but I worry about the ones that are still there.

Managers like that stay in power because practically nobody ever reports them. All it takes is a concerted effort by a group of people who are actually fed up with it. The ole "can't fire us all" approach.

So much for quarterly reviews with your manager.

You need to move on from Ford. Do not stay working under this toxic manager. There is nothing you can do to change him or her. Don’t waste time or energy trying to please him or her or change him or her. Take it from an old timer.

I can say with confidence my current manager hates me. No doubts about it. I'm not down and out about it though, its more of a comical type thing. All the while while I'm good with my LL6. I'm betting this situation is common in Ford.
