Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

You can do better than this

I was laid off four years ago this month in the cuts to IT...best thing that ever happened to me.

Not immediately, mind you: I spent almost two years working contract gigs, low pay, no benefits, no job security. But I kept looking for better, and eventually landed the best job of my life with a huge raise, full benefits, full-time work from home.

If you're here reading this, you can do better than this dumpster fire of a dying company, I guarantee it. Don't let the fear of the unknown stop you: Companies have never been more desperate for employees and they're at the point where they're willing to give people they never would've considered in a million years a shot. Now is the time to jump ship and find new work, not during the next economic crisis when everyone cuts staff and you have to compete with hundreds of fellow unemployed to even get an interview, never mind an offer. Freshen that resume and get cracking.

I found this buried in replies of an old thread. I figured more people needed to read this. Credits go to OP, @cutf+1er8TBaB.

That wage wage doesn’t represent the majority, babe.

Also, where is your store located?

Look everyone! The troll is becoming even more agitated!

It’s okay. I’d also be agitated if minimum wage retail is the most I could achieve.

From the Last of the FYIs.... NewsFlash You are Not the moderator on this forum. Your confusing bitterness for the truth! Also you Can’t predict the future! We can only go with history, similar department stores have been going out of buisness. Malls are dead. The cost of living during and after the pandemic have skyrocketed. Your small world is not what’s happening nation wide. These are all facts! You need to get your head out of your an-s. I can also tell you are very young. You Will Learn. Take this as a life lesson.
Your Welcome

LOL at the troll. The number of posts on the Macys section of this website amazes me. There are pages for other large companies where you may only see a few posts per year.

Why? Because Macys really is that dysfunctional. People want to talk about it and vent.

I have worked at Kmart, then when my store closed I moved on to work at Sears. When my Sears store closed I moved over to Macy’s. I can assure you, it’s all the same. It is nearly a carbon copy every time, department stores are dead. Macy’s just likes to pretend it’s high end. Trust me when I say, they are no different from the Kmart or Sears store I came from and eventually they will have a closed sign on the building just like the others. This history just keeps repeating itself. The only difference is that once my Macy’s closes I won’t be moving on. This will be the last store I close.

Kmart: 1991-2009 (RIP)
Sears: 2009-2015 (RIP)
Macy’s: 2015-present

FYI I guess some people never learn. Your small store might be doing ok but the focus is on all stores nationwide. Your store supposedly doing well is not what’s happening nationwide. Also the death of malls in America is a thing. I take the Kool Aid in your store must be really strong.

FYI Sears wasn't on life support. They were already in the freezer just waiting to be buried!!! Macy's on the other hand, has rebounded and still in the game! Customers are coming back into the store, Online shopping has greatly improved and colleagues are getting hours. Macy's stock is on the rise and as far as my store (which is small and profitable) their is hardly any turnover. I guess it must be the "Big" stores that are miserable and not being able to adjust.

My thoughts and situation exactly. There is life after Macy’s. This is the next sears on life support. They like to give false hope knowing the real truth and when the time comes, just lay you off. Thanks Mike D. for all your honesty and will always consider you a friend and colleague. NOT

Of course it’s about customer service. Customers, however, are one of the better things about working at Macys.

Working conditions and poor management are the problematic part of store jobs at Macys, and they are major downsides.

The original post is about identifying potential opportunities, strapping on the ba--s and going for it. I’ve never understood why so many people try to defend this company. The in-store jobs largely suck and the proof is in the turnover rate.

Let's just face the facts, some people are not meant for retail. I understand that some folks on here feel like "the retail enviorment has changed" blah blah blah. When it comes down to it, it's all about customer service... whether it's face to face or online and whether it's high end goods to just what you have available... it's all about how you handle things. A company/person can't make you feel a certain way, it's YOU that makes you feel the way thay you do!!! Again, if retail isn't your thing, than yeah.. retail just isn't your thing.
