Internal job postings

Although I've heard from many that it's not easy to get an internal job, I would like to give it a try. However, I really don’t know how to tell my boss that I’m interested in the position without complicating my relationship with him. Any advice?

Advice: spam apply, they will ignore you for a while if you are decent at your current job. If you are kind of cr---y at it theyll hire you first try though.

Retaliation is approved management tactic in all areas at SF

Do you have a good relationship with your FLL? If you do, they'll probably be fine with you trying to post out, as long as you frame it as development, assuming you are in an entry level area and a relatively decent employee. There's no longer manager comments when you apply so that's not a poison pill anymore.

But yeah, beware if you are in claims. If you are, you'll want to jump ship for something that has a long lead time, like a big underwriting hiring wave or something similar, where they expect to negotiate with claims for release.

(Cont) When I did that the job market was much worse. Now since the labor market is tight I recommend notifying your manager there's another position you are interested in. The odds of retaliation are much lower in this job market. Good luck.

I had one especially horrible boss at SF. I knew I had to get out from under her or she would eventually try to fire me. I said to heck with it and applied without notifying her. She was furious. I feigned ignorance of policy, and she wrote some backhanded compliments on my application. Fortunately people in the area I applied to knew she was a terrible leader and disregarded her, hiring me. I thrived in the new unit.

I wouldn't recommend that for everyone but it worked for me. If I had asked her permission to apply she would have said no and then retaliated against me.

If it’s in claims, you’re not going to be released for 90 days, 60 at a minimum. So hopefully the internal segment that offers you the job has the ability to wait. Otherwise, claims “releases” you, but with a huge wait time that other segments cannot support, so they will have to move on to the next candidate; And you will remain in claims. It’s the claims way of keeping you prisoner in that segment. Welcome to the SF Dept of Corrections.

I hope it isn't claims. Worse job in the company and terrible management.

Just post for jobs you are interested in, tell them you are doing it for your development etc.
