Post this here too since very relevant to topic at hand;

Guess who isn’t on the list?

Do u know why GF is not expanding , cause snr leadership team knows once the chip shortage is no longer a issue , GF will no longer have orders …

Tsmc took the chip shortage seriously
Yes. In the news today, intel $3 Billion Factory Expansion…. Everyone else is expanding and booming. Building new fabs in southwest of USA and Europe, etc. Other companies are really seizing the moment. Not GF. GF is stalling out when they should have been capitalizing on the current environment. But nope, we fumbled it or as an other post put it “puttering along.” It’s a shame this situation/opportunity may never hit semiconductor markets again. We have amateurs leading us who are really good at pretending and faking that they know what they are doing.
It is embarrassing how GF handled this chip shortage. A nearly golden opportunity to skyrocket in upper echelons of semiconductor industry, but they just putter a long. It truly is ineffectual company led by inept leadership and management
GF is very poorly led and managed. Their business sense acumen is set to incompetent. All external factors have created a rich ripe environment to succeed and overload the fabs. It’s a global chip shortage. Demand is at all time highs! But GF still is only at 50%. Terrible. GF can not get out of their own way dripping over their own two feet.
@2xqh I used to be part of the 28nm transfer team from Malta to Dresden so I still keep in touch with some of them now and then. I vaguely recall that Dresden owns up to 80k wafer per month capacity but Dresden colleagues told me as of late 2021 the fab rarely churned out more than 40k wafer per month.
Not sure about this year but the CEO mentioned this year's expansion is all from Dresden. Would be interesting to see whether Dresden finally steps up its game.
Wow how is that even possible with the global chip shortage??
As usual in the past decade, bad, very bad. Still at 50% utilization
