I've seen somebody make this comment and I got a good laugh out of it. Merit doesn't mean a thing at GE, it hasn't for a long time. It's all about cronyism and kissing butts to advance your career. If you're lucky enough to have been promoted due to hard work then you're the exception that proves the rule. Unless you're willing to kiss some major bu-t, you won't get far.

Google answers and pass them on as your own ideas. Most people are too lazy to check. I've built my career on this.
Don't care how hard you work, results matter!
Also change roles every 9 to 12 months. Make sure you never are around long enough to live with the disastrous impacts of any of your decisions.
Some other helpful pointers: 1) dress like the CEO. When it was Immelt, that meant sweater-vests. Wrinkle-free light blue long-sleeve shirts with creases are always good ideas for those working at GE offices. 2) Obtain and use the God slide deck. (If you don't know what that is, find out). You don't to be good at much, but you do need to be able to make Powerpoint slides that make it look like progress is happening. 3). Don't shy away from lying when the need arises, and use GE goodspeak at all times.
At GE, hard work is rewarded by more hard work...
Yeah, and you're only considered for promotion if you've been through the leadership programs.
Diversity helps, too
Don't work hard. The bar is low i just answer emails and they think I'm awesome.
Same as it always was....
