Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

3 years until retirement

Generally speaking, 3 years until retirement is not much. However, it’s not exactly short either. At the moment I can't find a better job, and on the other hand, I'm afraid of being laid off just before the retirement (I've heard of such cases). Do you think it's better to take a risk and stay here or would you still look for something else?

Do you have enough spare capacity to keep the GE jobs and benefits and work a side hustle? Ideally, working the side hustle at least some of the time while on the clock at GE? : )

If you vested stay! Layoffs come with cost! Not only for you but GE. As long as you are getting satisfactory reviews and over 50, I think age will keep you alive for 3 years.

If you still need 3 years, that's an iffy proposition. Looking at the stockprice, pending split, world economy , Russian aggression etc... you'll be lucky to have a job with GE in 2023...

"THEY" want you outta there as soon as possible !!!
You're just a liability, considering that IF you're fully vested in the Pension Plan, then you've been there long enough to acquire some serious Vacation Time, Personal Sick Days and whatever else Co$t$ THEM to have you show up every day.
So, weigh out your pros & cons, hopefully you've been smart enough to have a "Rainy Day Fund" (S&S) and not $pend it on all of the Toy$ to keep up with the id--tic GE "Jon$e$" mentally (i.e. " He with the most toys wins")
So if at all possible,
Get Out While The Getting's Good👍🇺🇸😎

If you are in the Pension I'd stay. If you aren't like I was, I would leave. Grateful for the opportunities provided to GE but found somewhere with a pension and booted.

You don't say whether or not you're vested in the retirement plan. If you're vested, any time you spend with GE pays off dividends for the rest of your life. I would stay. This is the loyalty that GE gave up when they cancelled the retirement plan for new hires. If you're not vested and won't become vested in the next three years, or have only a 401K, then why stay?
