Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

A perspective for the future

I hope that at least some things will change for the better here and I wonder what the future of this company will look like in a few years. What do you think?

GM stock shows it will eventually lead to sub $20 per share. I don't know the timeline, but it WILL likely occur. There are a series of gaps leading down to the March 2020 lows, and in the market, most all gaps get filled - especially series of gaps.

If GM is in your 401k, then good luck. Just wait long enough. Time will prove it right.

The Ford split -- to be cynical, the first thought was that it was like old GM/new GM. A way to weasel out of (known) liabilities if one or the other unit isn't working.
Batteries go big chemical flame? bankrupt the all='lectric company. Laws(incentives) or consumer preferences move 100% electric as the boomers fade away when the climate emergency becomes clear? Bankrupt the ICE company. You will know that's true when they start moving the older employees to the ICE side and the newer healthier kids to the 'lectric side.

(Would not buy a GM 'lectric myself but hope the big battery and hydrogen investments pay off. Love to see those stories about a battery pickup truck powering the house in the aftermath of a huge storm.)

GM has everything riding on becoming the taxi cab of the world. They've alienated so many customers and employees over their course of existence, these people would never be repeat customers.

There's a reason why GM had to go so extreme radical. Their business venture was on life support, and would have collapsed under it's own weight.

I've worked for GM for decades, and would never buy their products. As one of the most senior and influential engineers within GM stated bluntly, "We are lucky, than we are skilled or talented. We are lucky our sh*t works." Take that how you may.

With Ford's new split of their business, I'm afraid GM is in some serious trouble if they think they are going to be leaders in the EV game now.

I'm glad that, finally for a change, the company has a vision for something new and is willing to aim for the fences and take a swing. I hope they succeed. Good luck.
