Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

HR disaster

Four PSG 22-24 have already put Chevron on notice of their last day of employment. Obviously more to follow after CIP. HR GM leaves because she didn't want to come back to the office. This is a disaster. Recruiters see blood in the water. Time for RM to go and massive shakeup of HR GMs.

Fake news. The highest rate in Canada is 33% vs 38% in the US.

Please, as a Canadian living in Canada I can honestly say our healthcare system sucks. My father is on an 11 month waitlist to get in to have surgery for carpel tunnel. My marginal tax rate is 50%. I’m funding god damn safe injection sites for crackheads and taxpaying, contributing members of society are treated like sh-t. If the 49th parallel dissolved tomorrow I would go as far south as I could.

Tell us you have never used the Canadian healthcare system without telling us you have never used the Canadian healthcare system. It p1sses all over this joke of a healthcare system in the USA.

Unfortunately for us, MW has directed HR to shrink staff. All of these 23s that are leaving can be replaced by 21s and can have 10 solid years at Chevron before they know they are going to get screwed. 50K savings per business partner.

Managers in all functions have been told that they will recieve significantly worse service from HR because of head count reduction and $$s spent on workday. Just go ask the people at Shell and BP how they like talking to Bots that take 3 days to respond to their questions. Might as well go to Canada for "free healthcare" and wait months for a simple procedure.

HR leaders at Chevron are a joke. Everyone knows the PSG 21-23s are doing all the work while the 25-27s do nothing and know nothing (but they sure do dress nicely). All these leaders know how to do is stir up drama, place blame to deflect from their own incompetence and create messes for the 21-23s to clean up.
People may ask why HR comes to this site so much, well it is because there is zero trust in the function and this site is our only outlet. Some, if not all GMs, read this site despite claiming they do not. Although nothing ever changes, I hope that they are getting the message that pretty much no one likes or respects them. This and all the resignations in our function should tell them something. Otherwise they really are as dense and clueless as everyone thinks they are.

HR is a business function like anything else. BU HR managers are 27-28. OpCo HR managers 29-30. I know HQ HR staff people with high school degrees, 30 years service, PSG 26-27.

HR Doesn't offer any value-added to CVX. The fact that ANYONE in HR is above PSG 22 is a problem.

HR: You're not management, your not producing oil, nor are you required to run the business. Why do you think you are owed high PSGs ?

This might be what the company needed to pull out of San Ramon. If all of HR gets poached, we’ll have a strong justification to relocate HQ. Chevron can’t compete with Tech on any front except pension (lul)

For the first time, I accepted a call from a recruiter yesterday and their opening offer was my exact pay at Chevron. 125+10% bonus. I would never leave for the same money.
This morning, the same recruiter called and asked if a business parter position paying 200 with 20% bonus would be something I am interested in. I Accepted the interview process but am still very skeptical.

I am beside myself and now understand why people are leaving so quickly. I would go from PSG 21 to 24 over night and I have been told to "wait my turn" here at Chevron. I have pinged the last 5 recruiters that sent me a linked in message. Let's see what happens.

@1eho - you are not alone in HR. It’s across the entire company due in part to what is being pushed by HR onto the rest of the company. You all are just seeing what you were pushing upon everyone else. You are not unique. Again accept it or try and move on. Don’t get stuck in a toxic loop

The problem for chevron is two-fold for HR. First they promoted the wrong people. And most of their talent is stuck in the psg 22-23 range with no where to go within chevron. Secondly, they have transferable skill sets and the market is ridiculously hot for HR talent. 22s are getting a 40% pay bump (including pension) and getting out of the disfunction of bad management.

If HR people are so undervalued and so good then they should find other jobs. I have never seen a group of people talk so much about doing something then not do it.

It’s ok to be mad, it’s ok to be unhappy, it’s ok to get the short stick from the boss, but if it’s effecting you all so much your should look for another job.

Don’t get me wrong, we love the insider info on the HR stuff, that’s awesome but if these pasts are for real you all are working in a very toxic environment. Keep in mind some of us on the rigs and in the BU’s have been working in this environment for a long time.

RM and leadership team swindled by Deloitte and BCG.

Step 1. Transform org and layoff with downgraded positions. This is a cost saving exercise.

Step 2. Over work staff that is left and hire a few consultants to fill in "gaps".

Step 3. Since there is no more opportunity within Chevron, the highest performers leave.

Step 4. Hire more consultants so Chevron is unable to function without you

Step 5. Charge more in fees than the original org was to begin with.

I can't figure out if RM is that d-mb or Deloitte and BCG is that brilliant.

Psg 21-23s do all of the heavy lifting in HR. If they continue to leave, then who will do all the work?

We seem to piling on to JL. Yes, he is 2 or 3 PSGs too high. Yes, he has major sc--w ups that we all know about. Yes, he is getting even more arrogant. But would you turn down a promo every other year? Let's stop blaming him for for being a PSG 25. It's not his fault. It's poor leadership.

You should experience HR in Angola. We’re talking 3rd grade proficiency. Petrotech here and I’m grateful for my HR BPs in the States. Some of us care.

Most of RMs non-GM favs are PSG 25 so JL as a 25 doesn’t surprise me. A sham because in HR they eliminated many PSG 24 jobs so now the 23s are out of luck.

GASP! Four unnamed talented professionals found a job in the hottest job market in decades? FOUR?

If this is ACTUALLY true then sorry that they are going and that Chevron is losing good talent, but four people leaving is not an "HR disaster". Attrition rates here (facts) are absurdly low ... go ask neighbors and friends especially outside energy companies how many people leave their companies. More like four per week. Welcome to reality.

Only HRGM recently announced leaving is retiring, two plus years after they initially wanted to retire ... this is not a surprise. Yawn.

all HR, HSE, corporate staffs should be replaced by contractors - no more blue badges

unless they have at least some p&l background, preferably active - they have no value

NONE

have a nice day

For all of us that feel cheated and under appreciated. I just learned that RMs advisor JL is a PSG 25. If he is what they think is talent, we all must leave.

I am waiting for an offer within the next week. I was on the fence, but if I get it, I am now certainly taking it.
