Union is bad do to the people it attracts. A busy city store with a healthy pay role is going to bring in people looking for advancement whether they come from other retail or transfer in from other Barnes and Noble stores. It can contribute to a cut throat environment.

I have learned how upper management has been forcing out long-term employees for years, and it's still happening. But why do they keep the real problem, the useless, long-term store managers? Especially with all of the changes in positions lately, everyone under the store managers is really doing all the work now. BN would save a ton of money by letting them go and hiring new store managers for less or promoting good people who have been really running the store! It's not like any of the SMs contribute anything more to increasing sales. But more on that another time.

But back to your post. How is Union Square more toxic than any other B&N? The regional manager sets the tone and yes, we all know that is usually toxic. I'm most amazed to see I still know people who continue to stay and put up with the abuse and harassment this company has inflicted for the last decade. Stockholm Syndrome maybe?
