Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Considering leaving Ford for GM, talk me out of it

Been at Ford for several years. Company has been going down hill for the last 2-3 years.

GM is intriguing. I bring good experience, been working on new tech for my entire run at Ford.

Saw a position I qualify for at GM on LinkedIn.

Advice?

General Dynamics has plenty of spots open. It's a different world in the defense industry as they actually require you to work.

Do it. Then you can find out how all of them f*cking suck.

I've worked for Ford, GM, and FCA, and many tier 1. They all have their pros and cons. If they didn't pay as well as they do, I'd tell them to eff off.

I bet you want to know which on of them sucks the most out of the big 3? I'll give you a hint. The one I work for now. Why? Because they pay me ridiculous amounts of money and benefits to put up with their sh*t. They know their cr-p is broke, but they pay out the nose to deal with it.

This whole EV ship will go bust before you know it.

Just get away from GM, Ford and Stellantis or whatever they call themselves!!!!

Stellantis good benefits but pay not the same as GM. Not much pressure, but run by a cheap French CEO who doesn’t like to spend money.

Ford! Dude what kind of stupid question is this? Didn’t you learn anything when Ford tried to stiff the GSR people with the bonus?

I’d get out of automotive until after rates go up and things stabilize.

In general, if you are a poor performer, you should always consider jumping ship every 2 to 3 years. Either to a new position if possible, or another company so that you can never be held responsible for any lack of real achievements (feel free to write a lot of fluff here on your resume), or worse, be found out.

Trick question! The real answer is none of the above.

South east Michigan, if that's where you want to be for some reason, has a presence from all of the major automakers along with hundreds of suppliers, where a lot of the real development happens.

Investigate your retirement benefits before you jump ship. Compare what you get from Ford to what you would get from GM. You don't want to walk away from a good retirement. If you are younger and are not invested in Fords traditional retirement then compare what the two companies give towards the new retirement savings plan they have.

I agree with getting out of auto all together. Better yet, don't get into it in the first place because it'll probably be hard to get out with the skillset you'll gain.

GM vs Ford is like an angry mid-et vs a child...the child has an idealistic view of the world and just wants to play with its trucks and the mid-et is throwing swings at anything they can knock down because somebody called them "little guy."

Better pay and benefits.

More risk of layoff.
