Thread regarding ExxonMobil Singapore layoffs

Why don’t they just take volunteers for layoffs?

I believe that would be a much simpler and clearer solution for the employees but for the company as well.
Let’s be honest. I don;t think that anyone who has even a little common sense can argue that the general goal of the XOM leadership is to shrink down the employee headcount at Singapore sites. We know it, they know it, why not be honest with each other?
If they offered an option that people can volunteer to go from the company, with a certain severance package involved, or even without one, judging by the general mood and moral at this moment many would apply (Including me, and the company would have a more clear picture as would we. Isn’t that a better option than secrecy and putting people on PIPs?

You will have to pay severance like all the other companies that treat their employees with respect. There are still people that don't recognize that PIP/PIL as a layoff with minimal severance.

Perhaps because half the people would leave

So... just quit now? Why do you need an engraved invitation?
If you would leave without a package... just leave.

They should

The people they really need to stick around, and those who would get the most severance, would be clogging the front of the line and they can't have that.

Money obviously. Why pay severance when you can kick people out for free
