I love that those people laid off at Peloton are getting help from the community at large and media coverage about their situation. And to see so many Peloton employees post about wanting to help their team members that were let go was actually pretty incredible. What happened to them was terrible, and I hope they all land on their feet.
But when I think back to the last round of DSG layoffs, where upwards of 500 people were let go in very much the same way (without warning, over the phone, people reading scripts), it was well hidden by the company. It barely registered on LinkedIn. There was NO help offered by the people still employed there. In fact, DSG appears to have told them all to keep their mouths shut. I still haven't heard from many people that I considered friends, the stigma was that intense. DSG pushes on, even as more and more people leave for greener pastures, but I still hold quite a grudge for the way they handled this, and the way those who remained have treated many of us since. I loved the brand, but I haven't stepped foot in a store since May of 2020.
