Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Updating my resume

High time to leave. I never thought I would be ashamed to have IBM on my resume. However, it is now. And I think I'm not the only one.

IBM is usually presented these days with the phrase "The Worst Managed Company In The World".

Ask someone 30 or younger about IBM. They might have seen a pre-Lenovo ThinkPad, but that's about it.

Having IBM on your CV is fine. However its the length of time you've being there that could be a problem ...

my personal experience - new companies told me IBM's flow/tools are proprietary and i will need to get ramped up harder than others. IBM experience is a plus, the skills picked up are not.

Having been in the job market and dealing with recruiters, IBM background is a plus. Don't overthink it. Good luck.

When people say ibm's image is tarnished, they mean in tech industry and they're correct. One will be downleveled coming from ibm to other big tech companies barring a strong interview performance because hr, managers are aware of the pay.

No one cares what an average joe thinks about ibm, looking at those nfl ads.

Yet, IBM is about to fall off the Dow Jones 30 index...

BS. IBM spends hundreds of millions to maintain the brand name, it has one of the strongest brand equity in the world and is among the most recognized brands on the planet (even though ppl don’t know what IBM does these days).

As an Ex-IBMer I prefer it this way. There’s no reason to be ashamed, unless you didn’t contribute anything of value during your tenure at IBM.

I never had issues with IBM on my resume, even after spending nearly a decade at the company (with growth along the way).

I left b/c of poor pay, but that’s another story ;)
