Thread regarding IBM layoffs

No RAs at GBC

GBS has no bench, period. Every project we run is short staffed, and we can't hire fast enough. There will be no RAs happening here.

Everything runs in cycles. IBM walked away from small customers at various times. The partner strategy always changed which confused the BPs. When they become big customers they were already locked in with AWS and MS. Partners consolidated and became multi vendor.

Accountants don't care about customer projects and HR doesn't care about anyone! No one is safe, all are exposed. Be ready

IBM discovered years ago that selling thru partners actually cost them less than selling directly. It’s the DuPont model Sell to your largest customers and let them decide how to deploy your technology. As such expect IBM’s financial model to embrace partners and cater to enterprises. Just listen to the 4th q analyst call. IBM made it abundantly clear they are focused on Enterprise engagements centered around consulting (segments they choose to serve), SW (emphasize redhat for Z), AI, and Enterprise cloud (again think Z). Everything else is not in the financial model. Can IBM make money in everything else YES, but they are choosing not to play there as margins don’t support the model, and engage the partner channel instead. When IBM bought Redhat, they modeled 1100 worldwide customers (announced July 2019) for their go to market strategy. 1100 !!! If you are not in that 1100 number, IBM doesn’t really have a future for you as they firmly believe and have embraced the 90% of all profit for IBM comes from those 1100 customers. The executive team is pursuing that 1100 strategy ruthlessly, which means Enterprise is the golden child, and everything else is an after thought. This is the financial model recommended by Bain and again by McKinsey back in 2018- 2019. Ginni wouldn’t pull the trigger, due to her lack of understanding of where the marketplace was heading. AK won the CEO job because he embraced the model and presented to the board a plan to get there. Ask yourself why did IBM dump GTS with its excessive backlog? Because the financial model didn’t support a commodity business. AK has another part of the restructuring to go (approx 1/2 of GTS) The outline of that (dump commodity and Non-Strategic businesses) will become clear over the next few weeks

RAs are coming, whether in GBS or not who knows... but RAs are certainly coming because IBM needs less employees based on their financial model, which we all know is flawed, but at the end of the day it is what it is.

Also, don't forget that the model going forward is to outsource as much as possible to the Business Partners, so if that is the case, IBM needs a lot less employees. Especially employees that are technical.

The Financial Model is there to keep the Execs in power and for them to milk IBM dry, with a BOD that is guilty as charged.

While GBS may not do a scheduled RA, they most certainly will still do the "4 weeks on bench = PIP" program.

It's true that GBS has no bench, and that we cannot hire fast enough. And it's true that talent is in crazy demand and we are crazy busy.

But, they'll still Bench PIP you if you're sitting idle for 4 weeks.

Bench management continues (4 was on bench = PIP). No RA for because of hiring problem (smart people don’t want to work at IBM - ever shrinking company). Ibm revenue will shrink soon enough and RA will be right back.

@vwv+1…what are you talking about? You must have literally no idea how a services business works.

Revenue growth is the primary measure the street is looking at. Billable consultants = revenue. Less people means less revenue. Pretty simple really. We’re not in the old EPS days of the old CEO, where revenue growth wasn’t important.

yeah... just wait. Do you think IBM cares about no bench and projects needing people?!?
No, they don't. RAs are based on financial metrics only that need to be achieved so that the current quarter is not a disaster when earnings season comes.

Wake up, you are just a fool!
