It's coming now. Wheels are in motion to be bigger than the last 2 layoffs combined. Seems that the economy is quite bad right now for 3M.

The recent ear verdict might imply significant cost reductions so that profitability is not affected - ie use cost to offset liability payments.

Majority of attrition is happening with folks who joined in the last five or six years, who are relatively low paid employees.
Layoffs will continue to happen for employees who are above a certain age mostly, since they are a " high cost " item for the company. Simple economics ...when there is 0 growth cost cutting will continue indefinitely.
I think apart from some planned plant closures, there will be few to no significant layoffs in the next year or so. It really looks like 3M will lose quite a few people to voluntary attrition. The attrition has already started and 3M is not hiring enough to replace the losses.
