The fiasco of March 2020 and the current fiasco is proof enough that it's time we should be seriously be looking into union protection. It's obvious that Hy-Vee eliminated jobs under the guise that IT employees would desire store level jobs. That is not what those folks aspired to be or signed up for. We need UFCW protection.
These were good quality people. If they wanted store level retail jobs they would have applied for those. What happened to employees being happy in what they were doing and had reached their aspirations?

At least with a union we would get a voice on our behalf. As it is right now we have no say in regards to our jobs an are at the mercy of corporate's whims not to mention some of directors.
I don't know, Chariton is unionized and I know for a fact that their warehouse employees and truck drivers make good money. Sure legislation has hindered labor unions abilities, but they still offer a seat at the table, good pay, and much much greater protections than state and federal laws provide employees.
You just described what businesses do. At least the ones that stay in business.
Corporations care nothing for employees. To them, we are not people, we are drones in sector 7-G, easily replaceable with the next warm body. And unions have been crippled to the point of being mostly useless. More sophisticated labor laws that are not employee friendly and right to work legislation are mostly to blame. Just ask Kroger employees what theirs had done for them lately. Sure they can slow down firings but those wheels turn anyway. People just need to face up to the fact that despite all of the bs about Hy-Ver being employee-centric, they are no different from any other place of business. Increasing profits keeping high level investors happy is paramount. The rest is just lip service.
