Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Why are there so many toxic people at State Farm?

Just look at the comments here. So much toxicity and hostility and for no good reason. I know it's a cutthroat work environment but that doesn't mean we should stop being cordial at least to each other. I'm assuming I'm going to get a lot of flak for this post, but I don't care. Things like this need to be called out.

"wokeiesm....plain and simple."

I see that angry old white men still come to this site to express their disdain at the the 70% of the country that is not white male and is finally getting a fair shot after a century of discrimination.

The place is a cr-p ho-e, and management is often mo--ns! They cannot even do phone monitoring without often getting the facts of the call correct when criticizing claim handlers, and when told about their mistakes they say "once we make our notes/comments on a phone call that was monitored, we cannot (more like will not) make any changes. Management thinks the best workers are the fastest, even though claims people have to correct countless mistakes in files. As management likes to say, it will all come out in the wash, except by then you just lost another customer. State Farm is Slave Farm! Like a bad neighbor State Farm don't care!

Why so many toxic, or better phrased "unhappy" employees?

Well, SF use to be a storied company to work for, a big happy family that gave top tier service. Tipsord/Rust JR decided this wasnt cost effective and took the family company out back and put it down to save cash. That created unhappy tenured workers whos worst fears about this change were realized year after year since.

Then there are the new batch of SF workers that joined after the overhaul of the company. They struggle in a difficult, unpleasant, job role. They were not trained properly for it, and there are usually not enough resources for them to get better at their job. They have to jump through so many hoops for any form of recognition or reward. Often their promotions are delayed by years due to staffing issues or you TM just wanted their friend to get the promotion instead. These people are not happy here either.

The stock of happy tenured "old state farm" people still exist in isolated bubbles in the company, and likely have no clue what life is like working claims anymore. I get a lot of executives may also be so far removed from the front lines they just assume everyone is lazy or whatever.

There is no willingness from the company to go above and beyond a generic "we care" email every now and then to their workers to show appreciation. There seems to be a total unwillingness to look at, or try to remedy, worker burn out or worker displeasure in the work arrangement, even if it means insane turnover.

TLDR: you get toxic workers when the company treats the workers poorly

Congratulation on your “word for the day” but SF is at the other extreme of entropic. Or have you missed the 1000 posts on micromanagement?

WHY? Because SF has an entropic work environment. They thrive on the entropy they create. For you, it is self destructive especially if you have a moral compass.

I think the answer lies in your question. I believe it is the toxic things they put in their body that creates imbalance.

I think they referred to you as “sweetie pie.”

State Farm refers to you as a pie chart now, not even a number. Sick twisted stuff. You don’t have to look far as to why. Unfortunately they let smaller snakes in areas that still needed dynamic honesty for everyone involved.

Its a rough work environment. Problem is, over the course of maybe a decade all this company has done is make that work environment as bad as they can in order to reduce costs.

So what was once a boring, difficult job that few wanted to do, but many would due to good work conditions and a real career that could be had....to save costs...they got rid of that and made it just a job that gets harder and harder to do every year.

Plus you have a lot of people locked into working here with golden handcuffs, so they vent. There isn't anywhere else for these people to vent, and none of the "feedback" intake the c-class execs send out seems to improve anything, just maybe slows the decline in working conditions at best.

I think this website might have at one time offered good insight and venting opportunities so I think a lot of SF employees check in here occasionally to see if anything new is happening, since communication within the company is very poor.

@qaq-is a good example,of the how far the average SF employee has fallen. Many like him-pure trash.

What’s wrong with w swapping and cc debt? When I meet your wife she always puts the room on your card, I think it’s awesome.

Toxicity comes from culture and culture comes from "leadership". Just because someone is in "leadership" does not mean that they are a leader.

I would not extrapolate anything reasonably representative in taking a sample from this site. Its about 7 people who are convinced the only way to get ahead in life is to wife swap, imbibe in illicit dr-gs, drink heavily, and incur huge amounts of credit card debt and their moral high ground and superior intelligence is what is holding them back in the world..........and maybe the perception of others who see them in their tin foil hat on Skype.

I agree, almost every analyst I’ve met in claims has been useless, just taking up space. While the handlers are drowning in claims, the analyst are tracking another worthless metric that doesn’t matter or help settle claims.
