Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Winning + losing = confusion

120% bonus payout = winning
3% raise vs 7% inflation = losing (exception for the few folks that got the Nov/Dec raise, your probably around 7%)

Q1 over 100% QBP payout = winning
Getting ‘dressed down’ in large meetings by the plant GM = losing with a bonus of emotional damage and a side of reduced motivation

Free cup cakes = winning
Attrition of only the good people = losing (but I am happy for advancing their careers)
Very few promo’s = we are on the ground, why are you kicking me?

Intel giving 15% raises & Samsung giving 100% of your salary as a retention bonus = sounds like fake news, but has been confirmed

Overall, it feels like losing, with moody AF execs, with a side of emotional damage.

For those who think execs will leave after they cash out their stock, they won’t. They are not interested in money, they want power, hence why they want you back in the office full time. So they feel powerful, and you, in the perfect position to be ‘dressed down’.

I don’t think majority of them can leave. GF is not exactly seen as a highly respected place within the semiconductor industry. It’s not prestigious. Most others in our field see us as a joke and poorly run/managed and led. It’s the last resort for work in the semiconductor field. It is where execs go when they can’t find anything else or have been drummed out by everyone else. GFs reputation and exec/leadership reputation is not good. So being an exec at GF is like being a the big fish in a small pond. Sure within the halls of Malta they are a big deal, but their “peers,” at other companies do not see them as equals. Outside of GF it doesn’t command the same amount of respect/weight than it does inside of GF. I have heard recruiters say they wouldn’t even entertain someone who was tainted by GF. But someone from Intel, Apple, Samsung, etc. could easily and freely move to different companies.
