Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

A company where you can be lazy and get away with it

I have worked in several companies in the industry. Chevron has some of its own specific issues, but I don't think you can work less and get more pay at any other O&G company. Moreover, lazy people here don’t even have to pretend to work hard. One needs to be fair and admit it.

Chevron doesn’t care about its employees. Only force feeding us the woke agenda of the month. Spend most of my time on other interests. Boost my resume with certifications paid for by them and keep up with my YouTube watchlist.

Yeah, unfortunately the system benefits the hipots and they love it. Really funny to look back after this building our tommorow stuff and see how nothing changed after 2+ years.

I was hired in out of college in 2012, and was impressed by how Chevron’s training program and advancement potential were presented. It took me about 3 years to figure out those were all lies unless you were a high pot. Training was sporadic and uncoordinated. Those nice foreign assignments disappeared. Then the layoff rounds. Then “working” from home with no direction, nobody seemed to care if I was doing anything or not. Then the contorted and ineffective “Transformation”. So after 10 years, I do have enough experience, I’ve got some feelers out there and some interest from other companies. To say the least, my Chevron experience has been disappointing.

Chevron management are legends in their own minds. None have any tangible accomplishments. Notice how no high Chevron management ever get poached by other companies, or ever leave to start their own companies?

There was a time when people truly lived by Chevron Way. Performance, insight, integrity ruled the day. You could look up to your managers, because they had earned their positions. Then the preferential hiring, preferential promotions, based on what you looked like or who you were related to, rather than how you performed, started. Then billion $$$ project disasters and cost overruns happened, with no accountability. Worse yet, those high up in those disasters were promoted or moved on to other projects, with no layoffs, no examples set. Unfortunately, this is the new Chevron, MW's Chevron. It took a while, but people caught on that you weren't going to get promoted unless you were in the "inner circle". Covid opened people's eyes that you could work only 2 hours a day (no interrupting teammates or useless team meetings) and get the same work done as if you were in the office. Don't expect people to come back into the office (along with 2 hours of commuting), and stick around for 8 hours "working hard" for no recognition, sub-standard raises, and no hope of career advancement. Welcome to MW's Chevron!

Leadership starts at the top, and sadly we don’t have great leaders to emulate. That’s the reason for the so-called laziness we see throughout the enterprise. When the CEO decides to lay down the law and hold his direct reports accountable for their duties, and each level below that also holds their direct reports accountable for their duties, then and only then will we all see a positive change in Chevron.

I used to work very hard. I did two manager jobs during the pandemic and took the time to design the new org. What did I get for this? A call that I could take a job I did not apply for or quit with nothing. So after that I said F it and am now looking to get back the extra time I spent. I actually joke at meetings about how I dont do anything and how it is all on my team and I get commended for my great leadership. I am waiting for another renewal then will retire with a package.

From the time the vanpool rolls in to the office, most employees begin to socialize, drinking coffee, procrastinate in their work duties, plan lunch, then watch the clock the rest of the day to not miss the vanpool departure time. I kid you not, I’m not overly exaggerating.

The problem I've observed in most groups is once you remove the decision executive, project manager, team lead, product owner, scrum master, consultants, you're left with 2 people who actually know how to do anything and these 2 are actively pursuing other opportunities

100%. Some of the laziest, as well as incompetent people I have worked with. ever. All levels. All disciplines. No reward or motivation to do better and standards have fallen so low.
