Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Impacts of attrition

I don’t have a feeling that the attrition is slowing down. People are still leaving. My question is how does attrition affect you? I have so much work to do now that I intend to leave too. It is impossible for one person to do double or triple workloads constantly.

Somehow people relate Advance 3M to advanced Retrenchment

Very negative survey which they haven't released the results.

The 'Advance 3M' wording has been dropped by the executives, in the last 2 months or so. The current approved phrasings are along variations on 'our new operating model' or '3M's operating model'.

I sort of treat the change as executives finally admitting that many things about Advance 3M were an unmitigated clusterfuck. I don't see any improvements coming however. Expect the exodus to continue.

Rumour is that the senior leadership decided to stop using the term "Advance 3M".

Since the changes did not advance the company. Instead its stock price was regressed.

Should have called it "Regress 3M" instead

At some point, when it is implemented - the nomenclature is redundant

No wonder the company business transformation is a hoax.

Heard they ditched the Advance 3M terminology.. Is that true?

Wait - this may not be limited to only after hours behavior. Other stuff may be coming out

About two days after the company was celebrating the recognition of being named the mist ethical company in USA. Ironic. Maybe it doesn’t include employees after hour behavior.

Anyone see the recent story on the mmm vp arrested for stalking a younger woman in Hudson. So much for the longer tenured lifers…

the good thing about being still here after 20 years is that you know your job well.. dont break your back doing any more than you have , the newbies are not great and most 25-30 year old are damn right lazy and think promotions are a gimme,,keep the faith and see your last 5 years out and get out at 55

New managers/directors from outside of 3M made a point of repeatedly mocking the 3M culture and the idea that people stayed with one company for 25-35+ years. I’m guessing they are a big part of the brain trust that dumped anyone with experience in favor of a young person less vested in working their as--s off. Yes…a company paid more for experience but they never looked at the level of dedication that was way more than 1 FTE (often 2 or 3 in fact). And they completely discounted the loyalty that kept those people with 3M when times were tough. Now the company just rewards people who can put a happy face on social media while they torpedo all that made 3M special.

Good luck to the seasoned employees who are hanging in there. I can see it’s been a rough ride.

Talking about attrition, the numbers are astounding. One in four of the new hires in the last three or four years are leaving.

Let us just take a moment to let that sink in.

Loyal 3Mers are largely demoralized and demotivated , thanks to covid stress, yearly layoffs, zero to little opportunities for career growth etc. , While younger folks are longer interested in staying put.

That is the current situation folks.

I am being tasked to take on 3 additional portfolio, on top of the original one. No promotion, just given a token EX rating. All in the name of Adv3M.
