I've noticed SMs quitting and they are replacing them almost exclusively with external hires. Some with no retail experience. If your an OPS or supervisor, moving up is over at BBB

the problem with the fresh eyes thing is, the company isn't looking for new or different perspectives; corporate has their plan and they demand it be carried out to a T, fresh eyes only really matter if they could lend their outside perspective to change or improve things
This may be unpopular but I have to give some defense to outside hires. It can be "fresh eyes" seeing things a new way. The things that made us successful do not exist in most of the retail world anymore. Online shopping is the new retail. Retail has changed. Sometimes new people can bring a new way of thinking. Sometimes someone is great at what they do but may not be management material. Going up the ladder is not guaranteed anywhere any longer
Actually. My assistant SM just got promoted!! :) Very Bittersweet because I think he does a better job than the current one XD.
Inclusivity is just another name for discrimination. Waste of resources that could be used to pay down debt and improve store IT infrastructure. Can't connect to tbs to help customers. Can't open web clock to punch in. But we have time to attend inclusivity clubs. Wonder if other retailers waste resources like we do.
To the woke is broke bs: BBB was going broke long before any changes happened. It must be a sad life that you live if you think inclusion is a bad thing. People are more productive and morale is better when people are seen and recognized.
It has been pretty clear for awhile that there is no path for promotions anymore. Once you're a supervisor, that is about it now. I do not even see a viable path from there to SM. And to get a district position is just about impossible. It is terrible for those of us who have dedicated so much to the company to work our way up.
it's pretty sad to see them go this route, like other retailers. when i first started with the company, you could make your way up the chain; our old DM, who was awesome, started out as a hardside key, then SM, and eventually DM. but for whatever reason, the company now thinks that coloring books and ice cream sandwiches are as motivating as the possibility of promotions and raises. outside hires are just gonna ki-l whatever little motivation stores might have left when they come in and treat everyone like garbage.
They want outside candidates because they want to change the culture. The culture they want is completely different than the culture that built the company and made us successful.
OPS here with absolutely no desire to be SM. Will happily take my severance when it comes time and/or find a better opportunity elsewhere.
This Company is on a downward spiral. No one here has any hope of advancement with all the layoffs and store closings. Some of the recent promotions/hires have been done out of desperation. Time to get out.
