Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Catastrophic value system

I feel terrible. How else can a person feel who has done his best here for years, who worked and risked his health at the height of the pandemic, when he realizes that this company values him less than a newbie who doesn’t know what he’s doing? There is no worse value system than this one here.

Walmart is retail on a massive scale and the hiring standards at the store level is amazingly low. They don’t even require a high school diploma, ability to speak English or read. If you’re working at Walmart, you did that of your own choice. Of course, you might be able to find something else, but many store associates are there simply because they have no other options. It’s not like they can walk into XYZ Company and start writing code. Decisions and choices made in your past do catch up to you, and if you’re working at Walmart because you couldn’t get anything else, maybe it’s time to take notice of your situation and start taking steps to clean your act up. If you don’t do something meaningful to turn your situation around, you are going to keep living it.

I read this (or something similar to this) in a topic on this board a couple of years back. It’s incredibly demeaning, but in a way it’s true (as difficult as it might be to accept:

“I take my kids to Walmart so they can see what their future is if they get in trouble with the police, don’t finish high school or don’t have a positive direction in your life.”

It is what it is.

Dude this is Walmart. Everyone is largely wasting your life and time...Stop crying family take 2 months out to learn Webflow make a portfolio and apply to some jobs. You'll start out near $30 a hour. You can do it, your not powerless but hoping these type of jobs are going to be anything close to what they once were is a losing battle.

Oh brother. Then go somewhere else! I’m sure you have a long list of former employers willing to be a testimonial reference to your stellar job performance

Horrible value system. For people who come to work every day and give 110+% and get sh-t on and treated like trash. A co worker over heard a market team manager say to a store manager that he needed to get rid of anyone with a 15 year and 20-25 year badge because “they” get paid too much and get too much PTO. Their mentality is they can pay 2 people for the wage they pay for a long term associate. They think they can get twice as much work out of the 2 people but really good luck if they show up and actually work.
A friend of mine decided to step down from a team lead position. Ever since she told her coach she was stepping down the coach treats her like sh-t, ignores her and wants nothing to do with her. Hmmmmm talk about retaliation. Guess people don’t really make a difference like they say.

The hierarchy always needs someone downstream to blame so they can keep their own positions longer. And if you’re too good at your job we’ll, sucks to be you cause they can’t afford to lose or move their anchors

They like younger ppl because they think it ultimately saves them more money - youth and diversity is their top priority - There was a memo leaked awhile back about getting rid of old ppl who are more likely costing more in pay and benefits as they get sick more often.

It's the same issue at my spouses store.

Walmart doesn't value loyalty or tenure. They would rather hire someone fresh off the street with no experience who won't stay emplpyed more than a couple of months or years - ruin the department or store they're in - and expect their tenured loyal associates to clean up what the newbie fu---d up.
