Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Trying to lure you back into the office

Recruiters are looking for announcements of companies calling their staff back to office. And successfully landing talent that doesn’t want to go back. Think long and hard GM, if you want to lose your workers who have been more productive at home for the past 2 years.

I’m retired. Here only 2 C how GM now treats their employees. Yes, if your work record was met & your duties can be done to help rear your children & after say a 90 day review, if your productivity hasn’t suffered then GM should show value to their employees & let them work from home. Our children need a solid parental home. The savings in fuel , wear & tear on a car. Less pollution, less fuel needed and best of all our children will be stable adults. God did not intend for us to live this way. Bless you all ❤️

I find it halarious the obvious HR/Trolls/line workers that are pi---d of the flexibility of remote work. Why are you arguing on the fact that a person is driving their kids to school? Why do you even care? Most of us that live an hr away from our work locations had to rely on relatives or pay for someone to take the kids to the bus stop or pickup. Money aside, I love being able to see my kids in the morning walking them to school. If the job is not critical nor requires onsite attendance why bother going onsite? With summer coming up I doubt I would be seeing any of my cowokers anytime soon.

I'm with the poster talking about the back and forth carpool. I have two special needs kids and found that the bus is not accommodating. I started paying a college student to do the back and forth between school and therapies. With remote working I have been able to support and be more involved on my kids therapies. While these years have been hard for everyone the upside has been being able to be a part in my kids life.

GM should form a committee to determine the committees to study this issue. Onsite attendance required.

What's wrong with the kid riding the bus? Did Mom or Dad give you a ride to school every day? No wonder kids are so messed up today, blame the parents.

What did GM do with all the building division people?

Who cares about how things were pre-covid?

The reality is that covid proved that certain jobs can be dome remotely. I don’t care about micromanagers at GM that want to have absolute control over workers. Job market is hot and, we the workers, have many options outside GM.

In the town hall this week, it was stated that face to face onsite collaborations are "strongly encouraged' but no mandate for it. If GM requires an onsite, I most likely will start looking for another job. People question this decision, but I would need to pay a sitter or carpool to pick up my son between schools. The drive for me is 40 mins one way, therefore where I work most appropriate is home.

Yeah no thanks. That's now a selling feature for personal happiness. Perhaps a day in the office per week, but that's it.

I earn quite literally, 1.5x-2x more, being home and still doing my job. Going back to the office would cost me financially, enough to actually consider quitting. They opened the floodgates, now they reap the results.

What do these companies expect? They gave people two plus years how to grow and income that outpaces their jobs. Now, they're hurting for bodies. What did they think was going to happen? These corporations are suddenly becoming irrelevant.
