Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

How long before US jobs are toast?

Emerson India yesterday inaugurated the new 145,000 sq. ft integrated manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City, in Chennai. This facility will manufacture leading Emerson Automation Solutions products to support industrial customers in India and across Asia.

This project is aligned with the government initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ It will boost local manufacturing and serve the global markets as well. Ram Krishnan and Mark Bulanda from Emerson global team inaugurated the event in person.

What would I do?
I’d invest in American automation, American innovation, American technology and education.
But that’s hard and our management isn’t strong. So we’re racing to the bottom in wages rather than racing to the top in productivity

Labor costs in the US are 6 times greater than in Mexico. Quality is equal to or better than US manufacturing. If you were in charge, what would you do to fight increasing competition from Chinese companies?

That “more woke” you talk about is not “pro-employee” for ALL employees and that is a real problem. You obviously don’t recognize that and that is ok. You can have what is left of Emerson. The “woke” you talk about is fine both conceptually and theoretically, but it will not keep jobs in the USA. And, employees will continue to leave regardless.

Last poster, You have lots of good advice. But you need to stop watching Fox News. That “more woke” is pro employee. It’s about Emerson being able to recruit diverse people working in highly profitable software fields. They want a culture where they can be supported. Emerson’s current culture is bad for retention and recruiting.

The “can’t do attitude” is sad and leads to management taking the easy route of just move the jobs to a Mexico, etc., etc. What about investing in new technology, changing compensation plans to more “profit sharing” type plans (which btw the highest OP BUs with EMR have), improving the culture not to be “more woke” but to be more pro-employee? There are other options than taking the easy way out.

So Emerson is a global company with manufacturing footprint across the world and that is a bad thing? It serves it’s customers with the best quality at best cost possible. If Emerson doesn’t do it, they go somewhere else. US manufacturing is becoming more and more difficult. Hard to find labor, safety issues and poor attitude.

Most of the US jobs have gone and continue to go to Mexico. That is a real issue. What manufacturing plants in China and India do is reduce the exports shipped from the USA which does impact jobs in the USA. Most of those manufacturing plants are needed to support the region. However, the facilities put oversees that involve customer service, application engineering, software engineering, IT support, and accounting support to the USA is another example of reducing jobs in the USA.

People have no sense about Emerson about Emerson manufacturing strategy. Always assume they only care about taking away US jobs, which just isn’t true.

MWC in Chennai is solely for manufacturing for the India and Asia market. I don't understand what this has anything to do with US manufacturing. Emerson also has a plant in China for the Chinese market. That is supportive of a regional manufacturing strategy.

You should see Emerson’s facilities in Cluj. To my knowledge, most are office buildings but it looks like a small city.
