Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Any idea why branding was removed from new badges?

Hi, just curious why our new badges no longer display the TIAA name and logo?

For those who may not have received theirs yet, the new ones will arrive by mail and the enclosed letter refers to them as "non-branded". They have changed from blue to white. And simply have our photo, name underneath, and the word "Employee" underneath our names.

Really bland and awful looking. I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but simply curious if there was any specific rationale behind the design change?

To everyone who's on about "cost savings" why even issue new badges? That's so TIAA. Issue "cheap" badges to replace badges that were fine and consider it a cost savings.

I wonder how much they saved by not including a slit at the top to thread a retractable badge holder through?

Most companies have done that years ago. Wells Fargo, JPM, BNYM and Morgan Stanley. Its for security reasons. Nothing cost cutting about it.

Have you considered it may be for security reasons if someone loses their card?

I'm thinking there might be a buy out from another company...soon which probably makes sense to not add the company name on the new badges and layoffs will follow.

They're probably planning a big layoff so don't want to invest too much $$$ in "real" badges. They will do that after they get rid of a bunch of employees and then issue the "real" badges with the fancy logos to the employees they plan on keeping.

"Untrustworthy" is an understatement for this company. Actually, the only thing you can trust is the consistent layoffs that they plan regularly.

Costs about half as much and there's no real justification for the added expense? Someone is finally taking some responsibility to cut costs in non-personnel-impacting ways?

That's my guess.
