Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

For those who submitted Medical/Religious Accommodation requests

  1. How long did it take to receive a decision?
  1. Medical or Religious? And were you approved or denied?
  1. If denied, do you plan to now comply and get vaccinated or let them "exit" you?

I ask because I saw someone post in another thread that they know people still awaiting to hear back. And crazy that Sean W. mentioned in the last call that they've gotten a lot of feedback that the process is taking too long.

I just don't get it, they made their announcement way back on 11/15/21 and now 3/1/22 is fast approaching. When exactly do they think is an appropriate time frame to let people know of such a life altering decision? The respectable thing to do would be to give people as much advance notice as possible.

And as far as their "backfilling" plans, do they not think that managers AND teammates also need as much heads up as possible? One more day and we'll be in February, which is already the shortest month of the year. When are they going to let people know what's going on?

I'm not one of those types of people that don't care about a situation just because it doesn't affect me. I have witnessed first hand every day what this has done to my co-workers and how the stress of it all has greatly damaged their mental health. This whole situation and the callous cold-hearted way they've been handling their "valued employees" has truly transformed my view of TIAA.

"BE THE CHANGE".....sure, yeah right.

Great question from the person who posted the thread - "If denied, do you plan to now comply and get vaccinated or let them "exit" you?"

Seems like there needs to be a way for those of us affected to unite together and fight this insanity full steam ahead. The ramifications of what they are doing are completely not right.

Perhaps they mean “Be the chump change”. That’s what employees are at TIAA. If they can get someone abroad to do it for a few dollars less, that’s a few dollars more in the bonus pool for senior managers who have carved out their permanent spot. TIAA is a terrible company with a dishonest culture. Their managers are mediocre and too scared to stand up for what’s right. They know TIAA is a dumpster fire. They don’t care. They have no pride or dignity. They are there for the fat pay and bonuses that managers get at TIAA for running a company into the ground.

I submitted a religious exemption and was denied. Since my submission, it took around 7-8 weeks to get a decision response. Into week 6, a Zoom call was setup for Employee Relations to ask questions about the exemption. They also allowed for employees to ask questions and invited the employee to email additional information if they wanted. There was no information provided by the company showing what would be needed to show the religious beliefs in order to be accepted. Do we need to open our souls that only God can see? I don't know. I was never given any reasons why it was denied, so I'm still in the dark and can't defend my position since I don't know why it was denied. Also, I don't know who actually made the decisions (Legal and Benefits teams). This is totally dis heartening to a long time employee, to be told you will be exited for your religious beliefs. Didn't Dr. King help implement some laws against this?

The job requirements changed, and you didn't want to go along with it. You voluntarily chose a different path. Nobody is trying to mask anything, but you, if you say it happened differently.

I am in the 'Prefer not to answer' group. It doesnt matter tho, they are documenting us as 'Non-Compliant'. I found another job and gave my notice but even though they are forcing me out the door, i am documented as 'Voluntary Separation'. This is a good way to mask the numbers so they look better.

Its all BS.
